The 2010 Aussie Millions Poker Championship
Tyron Krost wins the 2010 Aussie Millions
The new poker year continued in style with the 2010 Aussie Millions - the Southern Hemisphere’s biggest live poker tournament series. Every January PokerStars sends scores of online qualifiers to this prestigious event, held at the world-famous Crown Casino in Melbourne. PokerStars qualifiers won prize packages worth $11,000 - including Main Event buy-in and money for expenses.
The Main Event drew a total of 746 players from all four corners of the globe, with six different nationalities making it to the final table. The total prize pool was a huge AUD $7,460,000 and 72 places were paid. The action unfolded over five days of intense poker action, and it was Tyron Krost who took it down, keeping Australia’s biggest poker title on home soil. The 23-year old Aussie beat some of the world’s best players to win the Championship and a cool AUD $2,000,000 in first place prize money. He knocked out five of his final table opponents, and the end came when he beat Frederik Jensen from Denmark in heads-up play when his K-9 out-kicked Jensen’s K-6.
The Aussie Millions has gone from strength-to-strength since it started in 2001, and it’s now one of the biggest events on the poker circuit. The Crown Casino is where Team PokerStars Pro and 2005 WSOP* winner Joe Hachem honed his skills, and it’s got all the glitz and glamour of Las Vegas. Team PokerStars Pro Lee Nelson won the Main Event in 2006, walking away with AUD $1,295,800.
Qualification for the 2011 Aussie Millions will be available soon, so keep checking back for more details.
