PokerStars Caribbean Adventure 2004 - Day 2
"It's been awhile since I parlayed $6 into a cruise"
Dan Goldman and I were walking past a $30 "sit and go" that was down to two players. After taking a moderately bad beat, one of them, "Krannix" on PokerStars, said to his opponent, "Sure, but it's been a while since I parlayed $6 into a cruise."
Tonight, PokerStars' poker players, some of whom invested as little as $6 for the chance, are playing in a WPT tournament against Chris Ferguson, Howard Lederer, Gus Hanson, and other famous names in the poker world. 221 starters are competing for a first prize of over $430,000 - plus a $25,000 entry into the WPT event at the Bellagio.
The cards have been equal opportunity builders and destroyers of dreams. PokerStars host Tom McEvoy can say, sadly, that "my aces ran into kings" on the first hand of the tournament. The kings flopped a set, and McEvoy was gone. Phil Ivey, Alex Brenes (a member of the Costa Rican World Cup of Poker team), Erik Seidel, Bruno Fitoussi, and Paul Darden are already gone. Chris Ferguson has a huge pile of chips. Daniel Negreanu, Howard Lederer, and Gus Hanson are still in.
The action is ending right about now for the evening, and restarts tomorrow at 6:00 PM. Stay tuned for more updates from the field.
With warmest regards,
Lee Jones
