PokerStars Caribbean Adventure 2006 - FAQ

Caribbean Poker Adventure 2006 - FAQPokerStars Caribban Adventure
  • What is the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure?
  • The PokerStars Caribbean Adventure is a World Poker Tour sanctioned tournament in The Bahamas that PokerStars players can qualify for online. The PokerStars Caribbean Adventure will be held at the Atlantis Resort and Casino on January 4-11, 2006.
  • Is this a World Poker Tour event?
  • Yes! The PokerStars Caribbean Adventure tournament is a sanctioned WPT event.
  • Is there an agreement I need to sign to appear in a WPT event?
  • Yes. The WPT requires that all players in WPT events sign a waiver allowing the WPT to film and broadcast their images, as well as other requirements. This agreement is available on our web site - view the WPT waiver. Any questions regarding this policy should be directed to the WPT.
  • Can I play even if I don't sign the agreement?
  • No; the agreement is a requirement for participation in the main event.
  • How old do I have to be to participate?
  • You must be 18 years of age or of legal age of majority in your jurisdiction (whichever is greater) to play either in satellites or in the Event. Please note that if you win the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure main event, but do not meet the age requirement for the WPT Championship (age 21 at the time of the championship), you will forfeit without compensation the entry into the WPT Championship. For complete age information please visit our PCA 2006 Terms and Conditions.
  • How much does it cost to enter?
  • We encourage you to win your entry by playing in one of our satellites. Satellite buy-ins start at $2, there will also be select free satellites where you may use your Frequent Player Points to buy-in. If you fail to qualify and would still like to play in the WPT event you may buy directly into the tournament for $7,800+$200.
  • How do players qualify for the main event?
  • You may qualify one of three ways:
    1. Win one of our cash satellites.
    2. Win one of our Frequent Player Point or Tournament Leader board events. We will be giving away over $500,000 worth of free prize packages through FPP and TLB events.
    3. Buy directly into the event for $7,800+$200.
  • Can I purchase a package with W$?
  • Yes - if you are one of our most loyal players. That means that you have at least 10,000 lifetime Frequent Player Points. If you think you might qualify for this, please send email to support@pokerstars.com and ask them how many lifetime FPPs you have. If you meet this criterion, then you may purchase either the complete PCA package ($11,000) or just the tournament buy-in ($8,000) with W$. Otherwise, you will have to win your way into the PCA via a PokerStars satellite. Of course, you may use your W$ and T$ to buy into our PCA satellites.
  • Can I still buy-in directly for cash?
  • Yes, if there is still room in the tournament. The cost of a tournament buy-in is $7,800 plus $200 entry fee. In addition, we may have full room/meal packages available; please email pca@pokerstars.com for more information. You must wire in the buy-in or send it as a cashier's cheque - you may not have it deducted from your PokerStars account. Also, you may not use W$ (except as described above). If you wish to wire the money or send us a cashier's cheque, please contact us at pca@pokerstars.com for details.
  • What's the last date on which I can buy in directly?
  • If you are buying in with a wire transfer or a cashier's cheque, we must have your money by Tuesday, December 27th. The last date for W$ purchase from your PokerStars account is Friday, December 30th.
  • Can I win an entry once I'm in The Bahamas?
  • You'll definitely have the opportunity. We will be running a super satellite on Wednesday, January 4th, at 9:30 PM. You can try to win a seat in one of those.
  • What if I don't manage to win a seat in the super-satellites?
  • You can still purchase an entry directly before the start of the event.
  • Will there be more than one starting "flight"?
  • Yes. We will have two starting flights on the first two days of the tournament.
  • What day does the tournament actually start?
  • The Day 1 first flight will be on Thursday, January 5th. See the entire schedule for the main event.
  • What is the blind structure and prize structure for the main event?
  • You can see both the blind structure and the prize breakdown for the main event here: PCA 2006 Prize Structure.
  • I can't get to the Bahamas until late on the 5th. Can I arrange to be in the second flight and start on the 6th?
  • No. The flights will be assigned randomly. You will have to start with your assigned flight or be blinded off.
  • Can I buy in (or win a seat) into the second flight after the first day starts?
  • No. Once cards are in the air on the first flight first day, nobody else will be permitted to buy in or win a seat.
  • I want to book a room at Atlantis now so I'm sure of going. If I win a package later can I get that room refunded?
  • PRIOR TO DECEMBER 1, if you have booked accommodations and then win a seat, we will refund $2,000 to you via your PokerStars account. We will require that you provide documentation from a recognized travel agency showing that you have previously booked hotel accommodations at the Atlantis resort.

AFTER DECEMBER 1, we will process hotel refund requests on an individual basis. We guarantee the hotel a certain number of booked rooms, which includes our estimate of satellite winners; we will refund accommodations to you if possible.
  • Can I sell or transfer my seat if I win?
  • You must play the first seat you win. If you are lucky enough to win additional seats, your PokerStars account will be credited with W$11,000 and $1,000 cash. Please visit our event PCA 2006 Terms and Conditions page for complete details.
  • I won! What do I do now?
  • You will receive an email from pca@pokerstars.com within the next few days. This email will direct you to our registration site where you can complete your registration for the event. This must be completed as we cannot book your hotel room without this required information.

Please note that this email will go to the email address you have on file with PokerStars. Make sure that pca@pokerstars.com (and preferably all email from the PokerStars.com domain) is permitted via your email spam filter. If you do NOT respond to the registration email, your reservations WILL NOT BE MADE. If you have not received an email from us within 5 days of your win, send an email to pca@pokerstars.com, including a phone number where we can follow up with you.
  • Now that I'm going, where can I find more details about the trip?
  • Our travel planner will send you an email with a link to a personalized page with details about your trip.
  • My package included $1,000 cash. What's that for?
  • The $1,000 (which has been credited to your PokerStars account) is for airfare and other travel expenses.
  • What is included in the meal plan?
  • The meal plan offers you free daily meals at 11 restaurants located within the Atlantis property - detailed meal plan information and a list of restaurants.
  • Will there be other poker games and tournaments I can play while in The Bahamas?

Furthermore, we will have sit and go tournaments running whenever we have tables and dealers available.
  • Will I have access to my PokerStars account to get cash while I'm at the Atlantis?
  • Yes. There will be limited hours each day during which you will be able to get money from your PokerStars account. You will be able to withdraw a maximum of $10,000 during the week.
  • Will I be able to deposit cash into my PokerStars account at the Atlantis?
  • Yes. There will be limited hours each day during which you will be able to give us cash to go into your PokerStars account.
  • Do I need a passport to get to the Bahamas?
  • We strongly recommend you obtain a passport before you travel. Requirements for entry into the Bahamas can be viewed at the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism website. For U.S. and Canadian citizens there are alternatives to the passport requirement. For example, an official birth certificate (with a raised stamp or red ink) along with an official government issued Photo ID. The U.S. Government offers an expedited service whereby a passport can be obtained in about 2 weeks.
  • I understand that, beginning January 1, 2006, U.S. citizens must have a passport to re-enter the United States after going to the Bahamas. Is that correct?
  • The Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative will require that, but the U.S. governnment has decided to delay deployment of it for one year. The new date for this portion to be deployed is December 31, 2006. That said, you will find that a passport makes your travel much smoother. We encourage you to get one before going to the Atlantis.
  • Where can I find out more details about the Atlantis resort?
  • You can learn more about Atlantis at www.atlantis.com.
  • Where can I find out more details about the trip and the tournament?
  • We will be posting details from time to time on the PokerStars blog. During the event, this is a great source for family and friends to follow your progress.
  • Will PokerStars be providing transportation to the Atlantis from the airport and back?
  • No. You are on your own for transportation between the airport and Atlantis. Plan on a cab fare of about $25 each way. Since you are likely to see other people headed for the Atlantis when you're at the airport (and vice versa), consider finding fellow PokerStars players and travelling with them.
  • How will I get paid if I win the tournament?
  • Winnings will be deposited to your PokerStars player account.
  • Will taxes be withheld from my winnings?
  • No. You are personally responsible for paying all required taxes in your home country on your winnings.
  • Will I be required to wear PokerStars gear during the PCA event?
  • If you are fortunate enough to make the final table, you are required (per our PCA 2006 Terms and Conditions) to wear PokerStar gear, subject to WPT restrictions.
  • Will money be withheld from the prize pool for dealer tokes?
  • Yes, 3% of the prize pool will be reserved for dealers and tournament staff. You are more than welcome to contribute any additional amount you like from your winnings.
