Pieter De Korver

Televised poker provided Dutch pro player Pieter De Korver with his route to the top. After quitting his job and taking up poker full time in 2007, he won the popular PokerStars-sponsored TV show Poker Champion of Holland in 2008. Pieter always brings plenty of enthusiasm to the table, and having fun is one of the main reasons he plays the game.

He’s a player that has already earned his place in poker history, by winning the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo. This event is one of the world’s richest tournaments, and in 2009 the prize money totaled €9,350,000. The world’s best players each put up €10,000 and gathered in one of the Europe’s most exclusive locations to fight it out for the first place prize of $3,024,167. Pieter played top-level poker for six days, beat a field of 935 players and battled back from the brink of elimination at the final table – he was down to three big blinds at one stage – to win the title. It was one of the great tournament performances as he came back from last position to finish on top.

With his bankroll boosted by more than $3 million, Pieter travelled to Las Vegas and the 2009 World Series of Poker*. There, he again took on the world’s best, and came away with two cashes and valuable WSOP* tournament experience. One thing is for sure, with his bankroll, Pieter will be a fixture on the global live tournament scene for years to come.
