Ivan Freitez Wins EPT Grand Final Main Event

Season 7 of the world’s richest poker tour concluded in style with the Grand Final at the Casino Gran Madrid in Spain. The best players in the world gathered for nine days of tournaments and millions of euros were awarded in prize money. Venezuela’s Ivan Freitez won the Main Event, playing through a field of 686 players to take the title and €1,500,000 for first place. Team PokerStars Pros Juan Maceiras (Spain) and Alex Gomes (Brazil) made the final table, finishing in 5th and 7th respectively.

Away from the Main Event, there was a huge performance from Team PokerStars Pro Bertrand ‘ElkY’ Grospellier, who took down not one, but two High Roller events for a combined total of €678,000. The Grand Final closed with the glittering Champion of Champions tournament, which invited all previous EPT winners to battle for the title and bragging rights. This star-studded event saw another win for Team PokerStars Pro, as US player Jason Mercier emerged victorious, scooping first and €50,000 in Season 8 buy-ins.

EPT End of Season Awards

Held as part of the celebrations, the EPT Awards ceremony crowned Portuguese player Fernando Brito as Player of the Year, after an incredible string of results where he cashed in every event except Tallinn and Berlin. German pro Max Heinzelmann was a double winner, scooping EPT Achievement of the Year as well as the EPT Player’s Choice Award after a stand-out season which included finishing runner-up at consecutive Main Events in Berlin and San Remo.
