Be patient!
A big mistake that a lot of players make is that they react too fast. When you have to make important decisions, take your time to think about every angle of the current hand. At PokerStars, you can click a button that will give you a little extra time to make your decision.
Holding an Ace?
Don't automatically play in a hand just because you are holding an ace. An ace can look good, but if you don't have another high card to go with it, it can get you in more trouble than it is worth.
Playable hands before
the flop
You should fold most hands before the flop. If you're having a hard time deciding which hands you should play, look for pairs (KK, JJ, 88, etc), big cards (AK, KQ, AQ, etc) or hands which can create a straight and a flush (8 and 9 of hearts, for example). Be patient and fold other hands, unless, of course, you are already invested in the big blind and can see a free flop.
