The PokerStars BIG 10 Billion Winners

10 Billion Hands winners

Over the course of two weeks in May 2007, PokerStars gave away more than $6.5 million worth of cash, prizes, and bonuses in celebration of dealing its 10 billionth hand of poker. From cash prizes for milestone hands to PokerStars trivia freerolls, there were so many winners it was hard to count them all.

PokerStars' 10 Billionth Hand

Justine HallIt took PokerStars five years to deal five billion hands.  It took just one year to deal five billion more. On the day of the BIG 10 Billion, more than 100,000 players were sitting at PokerStars’ tables. By that day, tons of people had already won money for the celebration and each had memories of their own. There was one memory left to be made. It now is surely the fondest of memories, still resting in the mind of 19-year-old Canadian player Justine “justine0003” Hall. With just $12 in her PokerStars account, Hall spent a May Saturday afternoon playing $.01/$.02 short-handed no-limit hold’em.

As the afternoon grew late, her table stopped with the announcement that the 10 Billionth hand was about to be dealt.  A few minutes later, Hall learned she was the winner of PokerStars’ 10 Billionth Hand.  Her club flush earned her the grand prize--$100,000—money she plans to use to pay for college and a couple shopping sprees.

The other five players in the hand all won $10,000, plus a ticket to the final event of the World Championship of Online Poker (with an estimated prize pool of $5 million) depending on their VIP Club level.

Record-setting Sunday Million

As part of the big party, PokerStars added hundreds of thousands of dollars to its regular tournaments, including a one-off special of $250,000 in extra cash for the weekly Sunday Million. That extra quarter-million bucks proved to be all it took to break the Sunday Million attendance record. In total, 10,894 players joined the tournament and fought for a prize pool that eclipsed the $2.4 million mark. More than 2,000 players finished in the money and everyone at the final table pocketed some serious cash.

FPP/VIP Madness

During the course of the BIG 10 Billion celebration, players earned double VIP Player Points. That meant for some fantastic benefits in the PokerStars VIP Club and FPP Store. During the celebration, the PokerStars FPP Store placed its 500,000th order since opening in 2003.  A record 8,000-plus orders were placed with the FPP/VIP store during the BIG 10 Billion party. Dozens of big screen TVs shipped out.

Not only that, but more than 100 players became Supernovas during the 12 days of double VPPs. Those players will now begin their quest to reach the highest VIP level, just like ElkY and BigJoe2003 before them, who both recently earned Supernova Elite status!
