Multi-Currency Accounts and Games FAQ

At PokerStars, we offer ring games and tournaments in a variety of currencies, to suit our players from around the world. We also offer the ability to keep money in more than one currency at the same time, so that players can manage their money as they see fit, and don’t have to lose out when exchange rates fluctuate.

Below you will find answers to common multi-currency questions.

  • What currencies does PokerStars support?
  • Every PokerStars player has the ability to deposit, cash out, and play with funds in the US Dollar (USD). Players can also optionally keep money in Euro (EUR), Canadian Dollars (CAD) and British Pounds (GBP). We also offer a variety of ring games and tournaments in Euro.
  • Will you add my favourite currency in future?
  • PokerStars will consider adding support for more currencies in the future, depending on demand.
  • How do I add a second currency to my account?
  • If you're from a country that is part of the Eurozone (or is about to join) or your country uses the Canadian Dollar or British Pound, ‘there will be an 'Add New Currency' button in your cashier window. Click the button to add a new currency to your PokerStars account.

Alternatively, all players can use the "Cashier" > ‘Add New Currency’ menu option in the main PokerStars lobby to add a second currency to their PokerStars account.

Lastly, you can simply attempt to join a ring game or tournament in the currency you would like to add. The PokerStars software will automatically offer to open an account in the game currency on your behalf.

Once you have added a second currency to your account, the design of the cashier will change to a ‘tabbed’ interface with various currency options. To see details about a particular currency, or to deposit, cash out, or transfer money in that currency, simply choose the appropriate currency tab from the selection at the top of the cashier.

  • What is the 'Preferred Currency'?
  • The Preferred Currency is the default currency for your PokerStars account:
The Preferred Currency cannot be deleted. If you wish to delete your Preferred Currency, you should choose a new Preferred Currency first.
  • Can I change my Preferred Currency?
  • Yes, you can change your preferred currency at any time. Simply choose the appropriate currency tab in the cashier, and click the 'Set As Preferred Currency' button.

  • How do I delete a currency?
  • To delete a currency balance, simply choose the appropriate currency tab in the cashier, and click the ‘Delete Account’ link.

Note that if you are closing a balance in which you have a pending bonus, the bonus will expire and you will not be able to continue earning it.

Also note that it is not possible to close your preferred currency, or to close a currency if you have funds currently in play, uncleared funds, or incomplete transactions in that currency.

  • How do I move funds between currencies?
  • To convert funds from one currency to another, choose the currency tab you wish to convert money into, and click the ‘Convert other funds to [Currency]’ link:

The dialog that appears provides three options:

Click Next to move to Step 2 of the process, where you can enter the amount of money you would like to convert:

To convert cash, enter an amount into the box marked 'Cash'. To convert T-Money, enter an amount into the box marked 'T-Money'. Then click 'Next' to move to Step 3.

In Step 3, you should carefully review the details of the transaction, then click 'Finish' to complete the conversion.

  • Can I join a table or tournament if I don't have an account in the game currency?
  • If you attempt to join a game and don’t have a matching account currency, the PokerStars software will offer to add that currency to your account when you join. By default, any money that you win in the game will be credited to the new account.

If you don’t wish to open an account in the game currency, you can use the following two options.
  • What if I don't want to manage every currency conversion manually?
  • In the ‘Options’ > ‘Multi-Currency Options’ dialog, you can check the ‘Convert currencies automatically, without confirmation’ box. With this option selected, any time that a currency conversion is required, it will be performed automatically, ‘behind the scenes’. You won’t be notified or prompted to confirm anything. You can keep track of your currency conversions using the ‘Requests’ > ‘Playing History Audit’ feature.
  • What if I want to keep all my money in a single currency, but play games in multiple currencies?
  • In the ‘Options’ > ‘Multi-Currency Options’ dialog, you can check the ‘Credit Funds in My Preferred Currency When Leaving a Game’. With this option selected, any money that you win at the tables or in tournaments will be automatically converted to your preferred currency.

Note that choosing this option will significantly increase the number of currency conversions performed.

  • How can I easily find games in other currencies?
  • You can use the Ring Game and Tournament filters to remove games in currencies you are not interested in. To remove a currency, simply uncheck it in the filter.

  • How are PokerStars’ exchange rates calculated?
  • PokerStars’ exchange rates are calculated using the current mid-market exchange rate provided by Reuters, plus a margin of 1%. The rates are updated on a regular basis throughout the day.

PokerStars will waive this margin, as long as the funds are used to play the games, not for currency speculation or any other purpose. Effectively, this means that currency conversions performed in the PokerStars client will use the Reuters mid-market rate without any adjustments.

PokerStars will use Reuters' mid-market rate without any adjustments for any deposits or cashouts that are performed in a supported account currency (US Dollars, Euro, British Pounds or Canadian Dollars). For deposits and cashouts in other currencies, PokerStars will waive half of the 1% margin, making the effective margin 0.5%.

Note that where PokerStars has reasonable grounds to suspect that currency conversion transactions are being made for purposes other than play, we reserve the right to retroactively apply the full 1% (one percent) margin to the exchange rate.

PokerStars reserves the right to change the way exchange rates are calculated without notice.

  • Are deposit bonuses, Battle of the Planets, and other promotions available to multi-currency players?
  • Yes, unless specified otherwise, all promotions are available regardless of the currency in which you choose to play.

    More information:

  • May I use PokerStars for Currency Speculation purposes?
  • No. PokerStars' multi-currency features are intended to be used for playing the games and not for any other purpose. The use of PokerStars' multi-currency features for currency speculation is prohibited by our Terms of Service.

If PokerStars has reasonable grounds to suspect that currency conversion transactions are being made for purposes other than play, we reserve the right to retroactively apply the full 1% (one percent) margin to the exchange rate, and take any other appropriate measure, which may include confiscation of funds and/or closing the player’s account with PokerStars.
