"Competitive Edge" to feature PokerStars.com
February 9, 2005, Deerfield Beach, FL - Platinum Television Group is pleased to announce the selection of PokerStars.com for its innovative, educational television series, Competitive Edge, to be the focus of a special half-hour episode.
PokerStars.com is the online poker room where players become world champions. In 2003, PokerStars player Chris Moneymaker became the first online qualifier to win the title of World Champion of Poker. Moneymaker turned a $39 tournament entry into a World Championship and $2.5 million. In 2004, Greg Raymer kept the title in the family by turning a $160 tournament entry into a World Championship and $5 million, defeating 2,500 other players along the way. No other poker site has produced even a single World Champion of Poker, but PokerStars players have held the title for two consecutive years.
PokerStars software provides a secure, reliable, 'always-open' environment where players of all skill levels can come together at the poker table. The free software download automatically creates a 'play money' account for all new users. This account has no costs associated with it and allows users to play popular games such as Hold'em, Omaha and 7 Card Stud. PokerStars players have the option to deposit and play for real money. Real money players on the site receive Frequent Player Points that can be redeemed for merchandise and used as entries into special tournaments.
Truly a different kind of poker room, PokerStars.com offers special features that no other site can boast. For instance, players can display images of themselves in order to recognize each other. Connection statuses are also displayed, ensuring that no one ever has to play with someone who has a bad connection. Player statistics are also available upon request, and are sent directly to one's e-mail account. Hand histories are available for a specific game, a full tournament, or the last 200 hands.
The PokerStars team regularly sets the standard in online poker with innovative programs and software enhancements. During its recent promotion to send players to the 2004 World Series of Poker, PokerStars software engineers developed the first-ever double and triple shootout online tournaments. These tournaments are run as a series of one-table tournaments and provide a unique experience.
To date, PokerStars has hosted over 1.5 million poker tournaments. Recently, Poker Stars hosted the world's largest online poker tournament - the World Championship of Online Poker. The tournament guaranteed $4 million in payouts and drew 20,000 players into its 12 events.
Competitive Edge is a celebration of sports and sports enthusiasts, featuring the newest of products and ideas, trends in sporting events, commentary from professional athletes and sports experts, emphasis on local sporting events and interests. It is aired on local and national television networks, and is produced by Platinum Television Group.
