Alexandre Gomes

After graduating from Law School in 2005, Brazilian poker player Alexandre Gomes became a partner at a corporate law office in the city of Curitiba. Poker was nothing more than something he played at home with friends, but all that changed as soon as Alexandre discovered the online tournaments on offer at PokerStars. He caught the poker bug and began winning big money, enough to leave the legal profession behind and become a fully fledged poker pro.

By the early part of 2007, Alexandre was making regular cash finishes in some of PokerStars biggest tournaments - his most significant win so far coming in February 2008, when he took down the Wednesday Hundred Fifty Grand, good for a cash of $65,333. It was around this time that he also began to have an impact on the live poker scene. After making several final table appearances at events in his native Brazil, Alexandre went over to Las Vegas to play at the 2008 World Series of Poker*.

As sure as he may have been about his abilities, he could never have imagined just how successful he would end up being, in what was to be only his third ever WSOP* event. When he sat down to play in the $2,000 No Limit Hold’em event, he was just one of over 2,300 other players, all looking to take the glory. Two days later, it was Alexandre who would emerge as the winner, picking up his first bracelet, $770,540 in cash and some serious bragging rights. Alexandre also made a strong start to 2009 when he made the final table of the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure - finishing in 4th place for a cash of $750,000. His excellent 2009 continued as he joined the select group of players who have won both World Series and World Poker Tour titles, when he took down the WPT Bellagio Cup for $1,187,760 in first place prize money.

Alexandre is a busy man, but when he isn't playing poker he enjoys sports, and plays soccer regularly with friends. He's also a big fan of his local team, Coritiba Foot Ball Club.

A World Series bracelet win is something that all poker players dream about. Alexandre is only in his mid-twenties and has already achieved it. With a track record like this, made in such a short time, you get the feeling that he is just getting started. Alexandre is a member of Team PokerStars Pro and plays online using the screen name ‘Allingomes’.
