Christian de León
Christian de León is a poker player from Mexico. He studied Business Tourism Administration at university in Mexico City before turning pro, and also has various different business interests away from the tables. He’s now turned his attention fully to poker, and is already starting to create waves at local live events and beyond.
His breakthrough came when he made the final table of an event at the Latin American Poker Tour (LAPT) Punta del Esta festival in 2008, where he busted in 3rd for a cash of $16,400. It wasn’t a life-changing cash, but it confirmed his status as one of the best up-and-coming players from his country, and proved he has what it takes to make it on the live circuit. The biggest cash of his career so far came when he travelled to The Bahamas to play at the 2009 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA). He managed to outlast many of the world’s top pros and a huge field of 1,347 runners, eventually finishing in 23rd for an impressive cash of $45,000. He’s continued to make an impact at the biggest events on the circuit, and had a good run at the 2009 World Series of Poker* in Las Vegas, cashing three times for a total of more than $18,000. In 2010 he got his first big tourney win. It was at LAPT Florianopolis, and he won the Second Chance event good for $38,574, a result that proves Christian de León is surely a name destined for big things.
When he isn’t playing poker, Christian enjoys studying different languages and cultures, plus watching and playing sports - especially football and tennis. He is a member of Team PokerStars Pro and you can find him under the screen name ‘el grillo’.
