Dag Palovic is a poker player from Slovakia, whose journey from amateur to full time pro has been a varied one to say the least. He studied Law in Vienna and an MBA in Pittsburgh. He’s been the CEO of a media company, and even acted in a string of movies in the 80’s. He is also a well-known TV and radio personality, and interviewed some of the biggest stars in the music business from 1996-2004, including Lenny Kravitz and Wyclef Jean.
He started playing poker when a friend brought a chip set to the local coffee house. He graduated to the casino, and was soon wining enough to turn pro. He hit the major tournament scene, and made his first major cash when he came 7th at the Prague event of the European Poker Tour (EPT) in 2007, good for $137,151. Less than a year later, he made another 7th place EPT finish, this time in San Remo for a cash of $176,628. He’s made the money at two other EPT events since - including the Monte Carlo Grand Final in 2009 - taking his total winnings on the tour to well over $360,000. Dag has also performed well at the WSOP* in Las Vegas, with five cashes in total. This includes cashing in the Main Event two years in a row, with a 120th place finish in 2009 and a 37th place in 2010, worth a combined total of $246,683. He’s also won local tournaments in Europe, including an $84,570 victory in a $5,000 event at the Evian Poker Open in March, 2010. In addition to Hold’em, Dag also enjoys Omaha and 2-7 Draw games, and can often be found at the cash tables online at PokerStars.
Dag is now looking to add to his already impressive run of results by taking down his first major event, especially that elusive EPT title. Outside of poker he enjoys music, travel, movies and reading. He’s also the co-author of a poker book with fellow Team Pro Tom McEvoy, is a member of MENSA, and can speak fluently in six languages. Dag Palovic is a member of Team PokerStars Pro and plays online using the screen name ‘DagPalovic’.
