Fatima Moreira de Melo

Fatima Moreira de Melo from Rotterdam is one of Holland’s best known field hockey players, with hundreds of appearances for the Dutch national team since her debut in 1997. It’s been a career full of major titles and achievements, the pinnacle of which came when she played as part of the team that took gold medal at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, having previously won a bronze medal at the Sydney games in 2000, and silver in 2004 in Athens. 

She also helped her nation become World Champions at the Women’s Hockey World Cup in 2006, and win the Champions Trophy in 2007. In addition, she was also voted Rotterdam Sportswoman of the Year in 2006. 

Away from the hockey field, Fatima is a regular face on Dutch TV shows. She’s even a keen singer and has performed at several prestigious sporting events. She also studied for a Masters Degree in Law, graduating in 2006. Fatima is now a member of Team PokerStars SportStars and is looking forward to representing her homeland in the biggest live and online poker events.
