Gualter Salles

Professional race car driver Gualter Salles can look back at a distinguished career on the motorsports circuit. He started out driving go-karts, before moving on to Formula 3, CART, and finally the Indy Racing League, with his career highlight a victory in the Formula 3 British Grand Prix in 1995. Post-racing, Gualter moved into team management and is now a team owner. He became interested in poker when he saw tournaments on TV back home in his native Brazil.

Gualter has found considerable poker tournament success since taking up the game in 2006, cashing in several big live events. His run began at the biggest poker tournament of them all, the World Series of Poker* $10,000 Main Event in Las Vegas. He joined a huge field and battled his way to the money, cracking the top 500 and finishing in 447th for $29,883. Next it was EPT London, where he narrowly missed out on a final table appearance, exiting the tournament in 14th place for $47,795. He then went one better at the Five Diamond World Poker Classic, making the final table and finishing in 5th spot good for $64,485, his biggest live cash so far. When it comes to online poker, Gualter has a string of cashes in PokerStars tournaments, including a hot streak in September 2008, when he won two of his favored $109 No Limit Hold’em rebuy tournies. He’s also won a $215 rebuy event pocketing $36,285, and these results, combined with his live successes show that Gualter is a serious poker player in his own right.

When he’s not playing poker or racing cars Gualter loves sports and plays tennis and football. He also hosts PokerStars Latin American Poker Tour coverage on television in Brazil.
