Jan Heitmann began using cards when he first learnt to perform tricks as a magician. That experience sparked his poker career, and the German pro now has multiple cashes online and on the EPT to his name. He studied management, but it was his life away from business that led him to play poker professionally. He’s also been playing the game for a long time compared to many modern players, so he brings plenty of experience to the table.
He first set foot on the live circuit in 2004, the year he debuted at the World Series of Poker* in Las Vegas. He picked up two cashes that year, before going on to record his first major payday a couple of years later at the European Poker Classics in London, where he finished in second place for $127,271. Season 4 of the European Poker Tour was a successful time for Jan, beginning with a cash on home turf at EPT Dortmund. He finished in 19th spot for $25,536, before recording another two quick-fire money finishes at EPT San Remo and the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo. The World Series was next, and Jan made the money in the world’s biggest live poker tournament, the $10,000 No Limit Hold’em Main Event. He finished in 585th place, good for $23,160, and picked up invaluable experience, playing live poker on the biggest stage. Along the way he’s also finished runner-up in the PokerStars Sunday Million, proving that he’s equally at home online.
Jan has many varied interests away from poker, as he enjoys skiing, billiards, guitar and comedy. He’s proud to be on the team and hopes to represent PokerStars and German players in particular, at every event he plays. He is a member of Team PokerStars Pro and plays online using the screen name ‘Jan Heitmann’.
