A former Starcraft player, Johannes Steindl quickly found his feet in the online poker world at PokerStars. While studying at the University of Vienna he read an article about another Starcraft player who had made it big in online poker. Johannes followed suit, buying some strategy books and depositing €100, and he was soon playing regularly. He’s had plenty of success at the virtual felt since, including a second place in the PokerStars Sunday Million.
He’s primarily an online cash game player, but began playing tournaments on the live scene in his native Austria. A number of cashes at events in Vienna followed and he decided to try his luck abroad. Johannes found success in the big tournaments in Las Vegas, with three cashes at the 2007 World Series of Poker*in No Limit Hold’em events, including six-handed and heads-up. Those results have given him a taste for more, and tournament poker is now his focus.
Johannes admits that his tournament results are still improving, and he’s working hard on that part of his game. His association with PokerStars will allow him to develop his skills, and he’s looking forward to being more involved in the European Poker Tour, which will give him a better chance of taking down that big payday. When Johannes isn’t playing poker he enjoys online gaming, sports and movies. He is a member of Team PokerStars Pro and plays under the screen name ‘J. Steindl’.
