Portuguese player Luis Medina had always played cards for fun, especially games like Bridge, Gin and Canasta. He fell in love with poker when he travelled to the US to further his studies, and it was with the game of No Limit Hold’em where he would wind up making his mark. In his spare time, he would travel to play in the card rooms of Atlantic City - a place second only to Las Vegas as a land of opportunity for aspiring players looking to make it big in the poker world. It wasn’t long before he was making money on a steady basis.
In the years since, Luis has managed to clock up a solid run of tournament results at live events around the world and online at PokerStars. He cashed at the prestigious Austrian Masters festival in 2001, and in 2007, he represented his country as part of Team Portugal in the live final of the PokerStars World Cup of Poker, eventually finishing in 5th place. Elsewhere, Luis has also scored several cash finishes in Atlantic City and at home in his native Portugal. Online, Luis has a long list of strong results, including a third place finish in an event in the 2003 PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP).
Away from the world of professional poker, Luis keeps active with a range of different hobbies, including scuba diving, skiing and hiking. He also enjoys chilling out by reading, going to the cinema and listening to music. In addition, Luis donates his free time to working for charities involved with environmental protection, and even finds time to work as a business consultant.
Being a member of Team PokerStars Pro gives Luis the chance to play in the biggest events on the poker circuit and prove to the world that he’s a force to be reckoned with - a challenge he says he’s more than up to. Luis is a member of Team PokerStars Pro and plays online using the screen name ‘luismedina’.
