Born in Poland, Marcin Horecki is a former member of the National alpine skiing team, winning several medals at junior and senior level. After being forced to quit the sport because of injury, Marcin studied for a Bachelors degree and a Masters, and found work in the corporate financial business. He also began playing Magic: The Gathering around this time, a game that would introduce him to the poker tables at PokerStars.
Starting out on the play money tables, Marcin worked his way up through the ranks of low stakes cash games and tournaments, building up a healthy bankroll. In 2006, he made his first impact on the live circuit when he came close to making the final table of the €1,000 No Limit Hold’em event at the Barcelona Open. In January 2007, he cashed in the PokerStars European Poker Tour Season 3 Copenhagen event, winning $9,580 for finishing in 30th. Later in the year, Marcin travelled to Vienna to play in the Austrian Masters, and took down the €500 No Limit Hold’em Rebuy event for $28,637.
2008 saw Horecki cash in a side event at the EPT Polish Open in Warsaw, before his career breakthrough result – third place at the EPT Season 5 London No Limit Hold’em. The Final Table appearance earned Horecki $532,111, more than sextupling his career earnings to date. He then scored another EPT 3rd place, in Prague at the end of 2010, scooping €247,000 in prize money. This result took him over $1,000,000 in live tournament winnings, and to the top of the all-time list for Polish players. November 2012 also saw Marcin perform well online, with a title win in both the MicroMillions and FCOOP.
When he isn’t playing, Marcin is a huge fan of winter sports, especially skiing and ski jumping. He still plays Magic: The Gathering, and also likes to travel, play tennis and keep up to date with the financial world.
Already one of the highest earning Polish poker players of all time, Marcin Horecki will be looking to take down his first major title at the biggest events around the world. He is a member of Team PokerStars Pro and plays online using the screen name ‘Goral’.
