Matthias De Meulder is a pro poker player from Antwerp in Belgium. Before making his mark on the poker scene, he presented his own TV show at just ten years of age, alongside his twin brother Christophe, who's also a member of Team PokerStars Pro.
He was introduced to poker by friends on the gaming scene, and caught the bug soon after. He began studying strategy and it wasn’t long before his competitive nature and determination to succeed started to pay off. Matthias has since become a regular fixture on PokerStars medium-high stakes cash tables, specialising in shorthanded games. He’s also found success in some of PokerStars biggest online tournaments.
Highlights include wins or final table appearances in the Daily Eighty Grand, $109 Sunday Rebuy, The Big $109, The Hotter $75 and many more, worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. He also finished 5th in an event in the 2011 Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) for $34,884, and has cashed in events in both the World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) and Turbo Championship of Online Poker (TCOOP).
Matthias has also made an impact on the live tournament scene, with 2009 proving to be the breakout year. He played in the WSOP* Main Event for the first time and finished in 645th place for a cash of $21,365, followed by a win at an event in Dublin and several other high profile cash finishes. It was the start of a solid run of results that hasn’t stopped since. His biggest results have been on the European Poker Tour (EPT), with several cash finishes and near-misses. He came close to making the final table in Barcelona, eventually busting in 10th for $72,034. The biggest cash of his career so far came with a win in a side event at EPT Deauville, good for $178,860..
When he isn’t playing poker, Matthias enjoys travelling to Poland to visit his girlfriend. He’s also likes sports, nightlife, gaming, watching movies and hanging out with friends. He took part in a reality TV show in 2012, with his brother and Team SportStar Fatima Moreira De Melo. Matthias is a member of Team PokerStars Pro and plays online using the screen name ‘mattidm’.
