Richard Toth was born in Hungary and is currently based in the nation’s capital Budapest. He graduated from university with a degree in Political Science, before going on to work for an IT company. He’s a keen sportsman, and regularly plays basketball, swimming and outdoor activities like orienteering and climbing. He’s managed to put this competitive spirit and fearless outlook to good use at the poker table, and turned pro in 2006.
Richard has a long list of live tournament wins and cashes at the biggest events around the world, helping to make him one of the most successful players that Hungary has ever produced. He almost won a WSOP* bracelet in 2006 when he came 2nd in a $1,500 No Limit Hold’em event for $333,729. There have been several other World Series cashes since then, including a top-400 finish in the 2009 Main Event. His first major title came with a win at the prestigious European Poker Masters in 2006, good for $128,732. More success came a few months later when Richard scored a 3rd place finish at EPT Copenhagen worth $232,308. He also has a World Poker Tour title after taking down the WPT Bratislava Main Event in 2009 for prize money of $212,397, and finished in 14th place at the 2010 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure to add another $115,000 to his bankroll. Elsewhere he’s also performed well over the yet.
For Richard, playing poker isn’t just about winning money. Instead it’s about earning respect and achieving the highest goals in the game. It’s an approach that’s clearly paying off, as he looks set to keep cashing at the biggest events for years to come. Richard is a member of Team PokerStars Pro and plays online using the screen name ‘Richard Toth’.
