Ruben Visser

Born and raised in Amsterdam, Ruben Visser is a sports fanatic. He played field hockey to a high level, as well as football, tennis and snowboarding. He also studied Business and Marketing at Erasmus University in Rotterdam, and hopes to pursue a business career in the future. For the moment however, he’s a professional poker player. Ruben deposited $100 at PokerStars soon after his 18th birthday and hasn’t looked back since. He started off playing micro stakes multi-table tournaments, but thanks to the advice he picked up from poker forums, he soon graduated to play the highest stakes online.

The big tournaments at PokerStars have provided Ruben with some excellent results. He’s a World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) bracelet holder after winning the 6-max $320 event in 2008 for $135,687, and he also came sixth in a Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) High Stakes event, cashing for $126,000. He’s also won the Sunday Warm-Up, good for $112,945, and final tabled the Sunday Million, finishing fourth for $77,301. After consistently crushing the competition online, Ruben now plays the live circuit in Europe, and has some good results. He took part in the WPT Spanish Championship in Barcelona in 2009 and came 11th in the Main Event for $18,737, and also won a No Limit Hold’em side event, collecting $16,729 in first place prize money.

Ruben says that playing poker was a just hobby at first, but now he's delighted to now play for a living. He loves being part of Team PokerStars Pro because he gets to combine two of his favorite things, poker and travelling. He's already won the biggest tournaments online, so he's now aiming to prove himself in the live environment.
