Steve Paul-Ambrose

2006 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Champion

Steve Paul-Ambrose exploded onto the poker scene in early 2006 after traveling from the University of Waterloo in Canada and winning the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, an official tournament on the World Poker Tour. For his efforts, the business and science student won more than $1.3 million dollars. Thanks to a PokerStars satellite, his total investment was less than $110. Steve spent a couple of years perfecting his game on PokerStars before trying his hand at the multi-million dollar event in the Bahamas. Steve plans to continue his studies, but will use his free time to concentrate on big buy-in poker tournaments. Look for Steve online at PokerStars and at poker tournaments all over North America.

2006 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure

Steve Paul-Ambrose began the 2006 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) competing against 723 other entrants. Some were poker professional regulars on the World Poker Tour, but many were PokerStars online poker qualifiers like Steve. Steve Paul-Ambrose won his $8,000 entry fee by playing a $22 turbo satellite qualifier to win a seat to the $650 (PCA satellite). He won the first $650 satellite he played.

One the very first hand of the PCA, Paul-Ambrose looked down to find a pocket pair of queens. It was omen of what was to come in his very first live tournament. He fought hard to advance to the final table and to eventually get heads-up against another PokerStars satellite qualifier, Brook Lyter. Here is the recap of the last hand, as reported live on the PokerStars Blog:

BLINDS are $40,000/$80,000/$10,000
The players see a flop of J92 with two spades. Brook bets $300,000 into it. Steve makes it $1.2 million more, to make the bet $1.5 million total. Brook declares all-in. Steve calls. Brook shows KJo. Steve has QTo for an open-ended straight draw and a backdoor flush draw. This is it folks... Turn is a QUEEN! RIVER is a KING to give brook two pair, but Steve the straight. STEVE PAUL-AMBROSE WINS THE 2006 POKERSTARS CARIBBEAN ADVENTURE, EARNING $1,363,100.00 and a $25,000 WPT Championship seat!

Steve Paul-Ambrose turned his $22 turbo satellite investment into a payday of $1,363,100 plus a $25,000 World Poker Tour Championship seat.
