Andrew Brokos Bio

Modern poker players come from a range of backgrounds, but not many come into the game armed with a university degree in Philosophy. Andrew Brokos is one such player, and he’s been able to use his academic background to pursue a successful career at the poker tables. In addition, Andrew has been able to give something back, using his poker winnings to fund a non-profit organization in Boston that works with under-privileged kids.

Poker was always played in Andrew’s family, and he continued to play through high school and college. It was at college he realized he could make good money from the game, and he’s been taking it seriously since 2005. He has a strong record in the biggest live tournament of them all, the World Series of Poker* Main Event - cashing on four occasions from the five times he’s entered the event. Those deep finishes came in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2010, for combined earnings of more than $300,000, with the highlight occurring in 2008 when he exited in 35th place, good for $193,000. Online, he has a $150 tournament win at PokerStars under his belt, plus a World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) final table, as well as a 5th place finish in a Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) 4-max event. It’s clear that Andrew has the skills to carve out a lasting career in poker, and his first big tournament title looks to be just around the corner.

Andrew is very active away from poker, enjoying reading, writing, hiking and camping. He’s also still closely involved with his non-profit organization, the Boston Debate League, an initiative that supports debate teams in inner-city high schools. Travel is also a big passion of Andrew’s, and he’s recently completed a 30,000 mile trek across America with his girlfriend. Joining PokerStars is a big deal, and he hopes to promote the positive aspects of the game, as well as serve as a role model in the poker community.
