Originally from San Juan, Puerto Rico, Karlo López followed a slightly unusual route into poker. He’s a well known professional magician in his homeland, and has been performing tricks and illusions since the age of 12. He’s also travelled extensively with his act, making hundreds of appearances on Spanish-speaking TV and earning the nickname ‘The Wizard’. He lived in Spain for several years, and when he returned home to Puerto Rico he started playing poker. It wasn’t long before Karlo found success in large tournaments on PokerStars, where he is now well known by his screen name elmagopr.

Karlo’s tournament results have been nothing short of impressive, both online and live. In 2005 he finished 33rd out of over 5,600 runners in the $10,000 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event for nearly $275,000; a score that kick started a string of deep runs in the years to follow. With numerous WSOP and World Poker Tour cashes now under his belt, including several final tables, Karlo is no stranger to performing well under pressure. Additionally, Karlo has achieved celebrity status in the online poker community due to his consistent successes in multi-table tournaments at PokerStars. Despite all the success that he has had on the poker scene, Karlo hasn’t forgotten his roots. When he’s not busy travelling the world on the poker circuit, he spends most of his free time on his magic and illusion tour in Puerto Rico, where he performs around the island for free.
