Jovial Gent wins Main Event
Yevgeniy ‘Jovial Gent’ Timoshenko outlasted a field of 2,144 of the world’s best online players to claim the coveted WCOOP title, and $1,715,200 in first place prize money. The total prize pool for the two-day $5,200 Main Event came to $10,720,000, which meant the top 306 players got paid, including million dollar pay outs for the top two finishers Timoshenko and ‘Udon Wannit’. The final heads-up battle ended when Timoshenko’s K-6 flopped two pair to beat ‘Udon Wannit’s middle pair. The runner-up spot was still good for an incredible $1,286,400 in prize money.
ElkY, djk123 and g0lfa double up
Three players lit up the 2009 WCOOP with their performances. Team PokerStars Pro Bertrand ‘ElkY’ Grospellier, Daniel ‘djk123’ Kelly and Ryan ‘g0lfa’ D’Angelo all won two bracelets each, a huge achievement for any poker player. ElkY’s came in Event 38: $530 No Limit Hold’em [1R1A] and Event 43: $215 No Limit Hold’em, djk123 won Event 2: $215 Razz and Event 44: $10,300 HORSE High Roller, while g0lfa scooped Event 18: $320 8-Game and Event 29: $320 Mixed Event [PL Hold’em, PL Omaha].
However it was djk123 who came top of the Player of Series Leader Board, thanks to a fourth place in the Main Event to go with his two tournament wins. That final table finish took his total winnings for the series to $956,956, and he also wins the WCOOP Player of the Series trophy and a 2010 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Premium Package.
