World Championship of Online Poker 2003
Event 7: $500 Omaha Hi/Lo
Players: 318
Prize pool: $159,50
THEY ALL LAUGHED
You'd have to be crazy to guarantee $1,000,000 in total prize money on the Internet.
Well, the $1,000,000 threshold was crossed after only six of the eleven events. With Event #7 the total tops $1.2 million.
The skeptics were right, $1 million was a joke. It probably could have been set at $2 million.
When LIAMV went out in 10th, nine players with chips remained.
FINAL TABLE 30 min. levels. 2k/4k blinds.
Seat 1: birdguts (Guelph) (205,930 in chips)
Seat 2: palurdo (corona) (82,115 in chips)
Seat 3: Big10 (Burnaby) (117,570 in chips)
Seat 4: atl angela (atlanta) (106,650 in chips)
Seat 5: Hörhö (Helsinki) (57,408 in chips)
Seat 6: starkitty (Marina del Rey) (71,087 in chips)
Seat 7: THEBAT (Henderson) (38,710 in chips)
Seat 8: MOJOEX1 (Hallandale) (57,129 in chips)
Seat 9: TheMuppet (London) (58,401 in chips)
The Canadian, birdguts, started with a substantial lead and THEBAT from Nevada was low stack. But this was going to be a wild ride, with several players leading at one time or another. Because of the split, it would prove very difficult to get anyone out of the tournament.
The blinds had gone up to 3k/6k on Hand #12, which may have contributed to the first casualty.

A few hands later, THEBAT was exterminated in 8th.

With the deuce on the flop palurdo's low was killed. And the five gave birdguts trips.

MOJOEX1 has taken a slight chip lead, but it's pretty close top to bottom.
It would take awhile but, surprisingly, it was one of the chip leaders who self-destructed.
With alt angela swearing at the dealer, it was birdguts who found a way to lose all his chips on some loose play.
Hand #66, one hour into the Final Table and the last hand for birdguts.

With a spade on the river, starkitty cracks birdguts' two pair. He never had a shot at the low.
With birdguts out in 6th, alt angela is given an extra $1,400 to make her feel better about her luck at this table.
Five handed chip count.

A few hands later the blinds went up to 6k/12k and Big10 was in Big Trouble.
With only 80k in chips left, Hand #97 was Big10's last.

Pocket rockets aren't the hand in Omaha they are in holdem. The gutshot 9 on the turn gave Horho a straight and knocked Big10 out of the Rose Bowl in 4th.
Three handed chip count.
Seat 5: Hörhö (349,370 in chips)
Seat 6: starkitty (163,120 in chips)
Seat 8: MOJOEX1 (282,510 in chips)
It's still up for grabs between these three as Horho takes the chip lead away from MOJOEX1.
It's going to be so tough to get the next two player out as each took over the chip lead repeatedly.
When the blinds went up again to 10k/20k it was time to get serious about heads up play. Three handed this was the chip count.
Seat 5: Hörhö (305870 in chips)
Seat 6: starkitty (400120 in chips)
Seat 8: MOJOEX1 (89010 in chips)
MOJOEX1 had given most of his chips to starkitty and was about to leave in 3rd place. But first he had one more rush.
After fighting his way back to even with the other two one more time, MOJOEX1 crashed.
On Hand #144 two hours into this Final Table MOJOEX1's courageous day ended.

What a terrible way to go out. The third 8 on the river promoted starkitty's A Q over MOJOEX1's Kings up.
Finally we'd gotten to heads up with this chip count.
Seat 5: Hörhö (265870 in chips)
Seat 6: starkitty (529130 in chips)
It looks like starkitty might have an easy time of it from here with a 2-1 chip lead. But it would be anything but easy for him to drop Horho into second.
In an incredible show of tenacity, Horho survived dozens of all-in many of them when he only had the big blind left.
It took nearly 80 hands, two level increases, and another hour for starkitty to put Horho away. This was an exhibition that was proof of how difficult it is to scoop a pot against even an all-in for the blinds player.
It was a shame that either of these two gladiators had to lose, but no deal was ever discussed as far as the rail knew.
On Hand #235 three hours in, this was the last hand of an exhausting night.
