Pot-Limit Omaha High-Low is a relatively new phenomenon in poker. It was introduced only a few years ago and has turned into one of fastest-growing poker games played on the Internet. PokerStars.com was the first online poker site to offer this fascinating game, and it has since found a dedicated and enthusiastic following who play Pot-Limit Omaha High-Low - in both tournaments and live action.

Attesting to PokerStars' well-deserved reputation for originality and innovation, the inaugural event of the 2004 World Championship of Online Poker was "Pot-Limit Omaha High Low." The event attracted a whopping 627 entries, many of whom put up $300 (plus a $20 entry fee) to earn the title "the world's best online pot-limit Omaha high-low player." For others, the entry fee was significantly less. A sizable number of players qualified through online satellites held at PokerStars.com. Many players gained their entry into the tournament from "Frequent Player Points" alone - which meant the entry fee essentially cost nothing. The total number of entries - 627 -- made this event the largest Pot-Limit Omaha High-Low event in poker history, both in number of entries and prize money. A total of 63 places, roughly ten percent of the field, were paid from a prize pool of $188,100.

The ultimate winner was from Ohio, with the screen name "AustinKearns." The winner collected $47,025, plus the coveted 14 karat gold bracelet awarded to each world champion. The gold bracelet is engraved with the name of the event, along with the PokerStar's 2004 WCOOP trade mark.

Players started the tournament with $2,500 in chips with blinds set at $10-20. It took AustinKearns a total of 538 hands to triumph in the tournament.

The final table was very much an "international affair." Six countries were represented, including Canada, France, Germany, Australia, Sweden, and the United States. Mik22 (who finished second) had been in this spot before, having won the 2002 WCOOP pot-limit hold'em event. Another finalist "-db-"(who finished sixth), won the 2002 WCOOP Omaha High-Low championship. So, it was certainly a tough final table by any measure. Seating and chip counts were as follows:

THE FINAL TABLE

Seat 1: Sdouble (65,100 in chips)
Seat 2: -db- (116,809 in chips)

AustinKearns came to the final table with a sizable chip lead -- 701K to his nearest rival - with just 208K. He was never in serious danger of losing his chip advantage. It took AustinKearns exactly 89 hands to vanquish the other eight finalists. With hundreds of observers watching from their computers all over the world, the final hand came as follows:
