World Cup of Poker 2004 - Final 16 Playdowns

There are 16 teams left to face the single elimination playdowns. The top four teams win a seat on the PokerStars World Poker Tour cruise and a chance to play for the PokerStars World Cup.  They will be played down as follows (teams listed as TBD are still to be determined based on the outcome of pending playoff matches from the round robins, which will be completed by Nov 28).

Section Semi Finals will be held: 14:00 Eastern time on Saturday 29th November.
If any match comes out 2:2, there will be a single player playoff to decide it at 16:00 EST on Saturday, November 29th.

Section Finals will be held:  14:00 Eastern time on Sunday 30th November.
If any match comes out 2:2, there will be a single player playoff to decide it at 16:00 EST on Sunday, November 30th.

Section I:

Group A 1st (Ukraine) 1 vs Group E 2nd (USA East) 3
Group B 1st (Canada) 2 vs Group F 2nd (Norway) 3

USA East and Norway will play off for a seat on the WPT cruise.

USA East defeats Norway 3-1 and will be in the World Cup finals!

Section II:

Group C 1st (Costa Rica) 3 vs Group G 2nd (Sweden) 2
Group D 1st (Finland) 4 vs Group H 2nd (Hungary) 0

Costa Rica and Finland will play off for a seat on the WPT cruise.

Costa Rica defeats Finland 3-2 in a playoff and will be in the World Cup finals!

Section III:

Group E 1st (Ireland) 1 vs Group A 2nd (South Africa) 3
Group F 1st (Italy) 3 vs Group B 2nd (Denmark) 1

South Africa will play Italy for a seat on the WPT cruise.

South Africa defeats Italy 3-1 and will be in the World Cup finals!

Section IV:

Group G 1st (Spain) 2 vs Group C 2nd (Germany) 3
Group H 1st (Netherlands) 3 vs Group D 2nd (United Kingdom) 2

Netherlands will play Germany for a seat on the WPT cruise.

Germany defeats Netherlands 3-2 in a playoff and will be in the World Cup finals!

Once the single elimination brackets have been reduced to the Final Four, those four teams (16 players) will proceed to the World Cup of Poker Finals, to be held on January 21, 2004 on the Caribbean Adventure cruise. These 16 players will each receive cruise packages for two (value $2,500), plus $1,000 cash.

In the finals, the Final Four will play in pairs using the same format as the online events (with tiebreakers as necessary). Prize money will be as follows:

First place: $50,000 ($12,500 per player)
Second place: $24,000 ($6,000 per player)
Third place: $16,000 ($4,000 per player)
Fourth place: $10,000 ($2,500 per player)

All finalists will receive limited-edition PokerStars jackets; the winning team will receive trophies and bracelets.
