  • How much does it cost to play in my countries qualifier?
  • It is absolutely free to participate in the World Cup of Poker. All you need is 50 Frequent Player Points, the cost of the qualifier buy in, and you could win your way on to your countries World Cup of Poker team.

  • How old do I have to be to participate?
  • The minimum age to play in any PokerStars event is 18 or the legal age of majority in your country.
  • What is the time period that determines the Tournament Leader Board qualifiers for the World Cup of Poker?
  • Tournament Leader Board (TLB) qualifiers were based on TLB rankings from January 1, 2004 - December 31, 2004.
  • How will the round-robin stage of the World Cup of Poker be played?
  • During the round-robin stage of the tournament each team will play every other team in the group once - therefore playing four group games?
  • Will the round robin games carry points (i.e. 2 points for a win 1 point for a draw)?
  • No. The first team to win 3 of its 5 heads-up matches will be the winner of that round.
  • Will the number of wins and losses count towards the final group standings?
  • Each team will get 1 point for each 5-match victory. After the four rounds are completed, the top two finishing teams in each group will move on to the single elimination playdowns. In the event of a tie between two teams, once again, each team will nominate one player to have a "Single Match Shootout" to determine which team goes on and which team goes home. This would also be used to determine placing if two teams tied for first. If three teams are tied, a single table 3 player tournament will be used to break the tied.
  • Will there be a completely new draw done at the end of the round robin stage or has that already been predetermined (i.e. the winner of group 1 plays the runner up of group 8 etc). If there is to be a new draw are there set rules to say that teams who met in the group stage cannot then meet in the first round of the knockout stage?
  • There will not be a new draw. The winner of Group I will be team 1, the winner of Group II will be team 2,..., the winner of Group VIII wile be team 8, the second place finisher in Group I will be team 9,..., the second place finisher in Group VIII will be team 16. Then the Round of 16 would play:
    1 vs. 16
    2 vs. 15
    3 vs. 14
    4 vs. 13
    5 vs. 12
    6 vs. 11
    7 vs. 10
    8 vs. 9

  • The major changes made to improve this year's World Cup of Poker are:
    5-player teams
4 teams each from US and UK
1 Rest of the World team
All matches are heads-up, including the qualifiers.
