World Cup of Poker VII

Italy wins World Cup of Poker VII!

The World Cup of Poker (WCP) has drawn to a thrilling conclusion at the PCA in The Bahamas, and it’s Italy who have conquered the world and become champions. Captained by Team PokerStars Pro and European poker legend Luca Pagano, Italy beat eight other nations to the crown and $100,000 in prize money, which equates to $25,000 per player. The other members of the victorious Italian team were Davide Scafati, Litterio Pirrotta, Marco Mancini and Ravel Furfaro.

In total 56 nations began online qualification for World Cup of Poker VII back in November 2010, but only nine teams made it all the way to the live final. Those countries were Argentina, France, Italy, Philippines, Slovakia, Spain, UK, Ukraine and the USA. Four online qualifiers were joined by a PokerStars-selected team captain for the final two-day tournament.

The live final tested different poker disciplines, including 9-handed, 5-Max and Heads-up elements, with players rotating in and out of the action. France led early on, reaching the final stage as chip leaders, with the Philippines in second. But it was Italy who battled through and emerged victorious, playing a solid game and beating the UK team into 2nd place.

The live final of the World Cup of Poker is held every year as part of the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) festival in The Bahamas. You can find detailed tournament reports from the event at the PokerStars Blog, and also watch videos direct from the event at PokerStars.tv.
