STAGE 1 - Qualifying for your National Team

World Cup of Poker VI - Qualify

The WCP qualification process varies depending on the country registered to your PokerStars account. If you are from one of the nations listed below, see the specific page about the qualification options available to you.

For everyone else, see below to find out what you need to do to represent your country!

Qualification steps for the WCP

STAGE I

Every country will have a team of four players representing them, as determined by Stage I of qualifying. Two places on the team are automatically awarded to the country’s top two Tournament Leader Board (TLB) players (see list of countries below), and the other two spots go to the top two players determined by the National Team Decider freerolls.

Tournament Leader Board qualifiers

The top two Tournament Leader Board players from January 1, 2008 to December 31, 2008 in each of the 54 countries represented will automatically qualify as World Cup of Poker team players.

Each player who qualifies for one of these coveted spots will receive an e-mail from wcp@pokerstars.com. Players must reply to this e-mail and let PokerStars know whether they wish to play for their country. If a TLB qualifier is unable to play, the next highest TLB player for that country will be offered the spot.

To view the top TLB players from your region, select you country from the following list;

Please Note: If a player qualifies automatically through a TLB position, they are not eligible to play in any of the National Team Decider freeroll qualifier tournaments.

National Team Decider Freeroll Qualifiers

PokerStars is running two National Team Decider Freeroll qualifiers for each country: ‘National Team Decider - A’ and ‘National Team Decider - B’. Both are open to all players from that country, and if you win either tournament, you’ll be awarded a place on your country’s team!

Please note:

  1. The second place finishers in both tournaments will be the alternate players for their country’s team. Should one of the team members be unavailable, then an alternate team member will play in their place.
  2. If you win ‘National Team Decider - A’, you will not be allowed to play in the ‘National Team Decider - B’ tournament, as you will have already secured a place on your national team.

See the full National Team Decider freeroll schedule to find out more.

STAGE II - Regional Play-offs

Once the national teams have been decided, they will advance to the ten-team Regional Play-offs.  Here, the four player national squads will battle against other teams from their region in a series of Team Play-off tournaments. The overall winning team from each Regional Play-off group will then advance to Stage III - an invite to play at the live Grand Final for a share of the $290,000 prize pool.

See the full schedule to find out more.

STAGE III - Live Final

The winning team from each of the Regional Play-offs in Stage II will win prize packages that include travel expenses and accommodation - to play live in the PokerStars World Cup of Poker Grand Final, held in The Bahamas. There, the teams will compete in a televised tournament to determine the World Cup of Poker VI Champions!
