World Cup of Poker 2008 Team Score Round

World Cup of Poker V - Team Score Round

The PokerStars World Cup of Poker is a competition among national teams of poker players. Throughout the event, teams are grouped with other teams and play against them to advance to the next level. ‘Team Score Rounds ’ are used to determine a winner from a group of teams.

A ‘Team Score Round ’ is a set of scheduled tournaments that each contains one player from every team in the group. Teams score points based on the finishing position of each team member in his tournament. The team that scores the most points is the winner of the Team Score Round.

Players will be pre-registered into their Team Score Round tournament, according to their team position as follows:

  Team Score Round
Tournament
A
Tournament
B
Tournament
C
Tournament
D
Team 1 Team 1 Captain Team 1 Player 2 Team 1 Player 3 Team 1 Player 4
Team 2 Team 2 Captain Team 2 Player 2 Team 2 Player 3 Team 2 Player 4
Team 3 Team 3 Captain Team 3 Player 2 Team 3 Player 3 Team 3 Player 4
Team 4 Team 4 Captain Team 4 Player 2 Team 4 Player 3 Team 4 Player 4
Team 5 Team 5 Captain Team 5 Player 2 Team 5 Player 3 Team 5 Player 4
Team 6 Team 6 Captain Team 6 Player 2 Team 6 Player 3 Team 6 Player 4

All four tournaments in a Team Score Round will start at the same time; you can find the tournament times on the WCP Schedule page. Players earn points for their team based on where they finish in their tournament:

Position Points
1 20
2 15
3 11
4 8
5 6
6 4
7 3
8 2
9 1

The team’s total score is the sum of all its members’ scores.  The team with the highest total score wins the Team Score Round and advances to the next stage.

In the event of a tie, the team captains will choose a player from their team to play a deciding match against the other tied teams’ chosen player. The captain may choose himself to play the deciding match.

Player’s Responsibilities

Players are required to ‘check in ’ with the captain before Team Score Rounds. Captains will have to email wcp@pokerstars.com at least an hour before the Team Score Round start time if one of his team members is unable to attend the tournament. In these cases, one of the team’s alternate players will be registered by PokerStars in place of the missing player. Should the captain fail to inform us of a missing player in time, then the registered player will be blinded out of his tournament.

For this purpose, a tournament table will be set up for each team that will seat two hours prior to the Team Score Rounds. All players in a team, including alternate players, should use these tables to ‘check in ’ with the captain. To find these tables go to the PokerStars lobby and click ‘Events ’, then ‘World Cup ’. All players will be pre-registered, and the table will launch automatically once you are logged into the PokerStars software.

Team Score Round Example

In the following example, there are 6 teams playing in the team score round (Teams 1 to 6). Each team has 4 players, and each team member plays against the corresponding players in the other teams. As such the set of tournaments in this team score round will look like this:

Tournament A Tournament B Tournament C Tournament D
Team 1 Captain Team 1 Player 2 Team 1 Player 3 Team 1 Player 4
Team 2 Captain Team 2 Player 2 Team 2 Player 3 Team 2 Player 4
Team 3 Captain Team 3 Player 2 Team 3 Player 3 Team 3 Player 4
Team 4 Captain Team 4 Player 2 Team 4 Player 3 Team 4 Player 4
Team 5 Captain Team 5 Player 2 Team 5 Player 3 Team 5 Player 4
Team 6 Captain Team 6 Player 2 Team 6 Player 3 Team 6 Player 4

Each of these tournaments starts at the same time. Players earn points for their team according to their finishing position in these tournaments. Suppose the tournament results are as follows:

Finishing Position Tournament A Team Points Scored   Finishing Position Tournament B Team Points Scored
1st Team 2 20 1st Team 6 20
2nd Team 4 15 2nd Team 3 15
3rd Team 6 11 3rd Team 2 11
4th Team 3 8 4th Team 4 8
5th Team 5 6 5th Team 1 6
6th Team 1 4 6th Team 5 4
Finishing Position Tournament C Team Points Scored Finishing Position Tournament D Team Points Scored
1st Team 2 20 1st Team 5 20
2nd Team 1 15 2nd Team 1 15
3rd Team 3 11 3rd Team 6 11
4th Team 5 8 4th Team 2 8
5th Team 6 6 5th Team 4 6
6th Team 4 4 6th Team 3 4

The points scored by each team member in their tournament are added together, and the team with the highest score wins the Team Score Round. In this case, Team 2 is the winning team with a cumulative score of 59 points (20 points in tournament A + 11 points from tournament B + 20 points from Tournament C + 8 points from tournament D). The final scores for this Team Score Round would be:

Finishing Position Team Total Points
1st Team 2 59
2nd Team 6 48
3rd Team 1 40
4th= Team 3 38
4th= Team 5 38
6th Team 4 33
