World Poker Tour 2006
PokerStars knows its players love to play live tournaments, as well as online poker. That's why PokerStars hosts the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, a World Poker Tour event, every year.
The PokerStars Caribbean Adventure has been held on a cruise ship and at the Atlantis Resort and Casino on Paradise Island in the Bahamas. Since partnering with the World Poker Tour (WPT), PokerStars has crowned three WPT champions.
In 2004, Gus Hansen won the first PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. In 2005, English gentleman John Gale won his title at Atlantis. Steve Paul-Ambrose exploded onto the poker scene in early 2006 after traveling from the University of Waterloo in Canada and winning the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. For his efforts, the business and science student won more than $1.3 million dollars. Thanks to a PokerStars satellite, his total investment was less than $110. Steve spent a couple of years perfecting his game on PokerStars before trying his hand at the multi-million dollar event in the Bahamas.
What's more, PokerStars routinely hosts online poker satellites to the $25,000 buy-in World Poker Tour Championship at the Bellagio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. This gives PokerStars players a chance to enter one of the most prestigious poker tournaments in the world for just a few bucks. Also, PokerStars occasionally offers its players satellites to other World Poker Tour events, like tournaments at the Foxwoods Resort and Casino as well as the Borgata in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
The World Poker Tour, hosted by Mike Sexton, Vince Van Patten, and Courtney Friel, airs every Wednesday night at 9pm ET on the Travel Channel. The televised WPT final tables consist of six players who battle for World Poker Tour titles in front of an international television audience.
