World Poker Tour 2004 - Day 1

The World Poker Tour $25,000 Championship Event kicked off at noon on Monday, April 19 with 343 players vying for a prize pool totaling $8,575,000, the largest prize pool for any event in history.

The PokerStars Millionaire Quest 2004 gave PokerStars players lots of opportunities to win seats in this landmark event, including 14 seats that we gave away using Frequent Player Points, 1 seat given to the Tournament Leader Board winner and 12 seats won in the many cash satellites we ran during the past two months. In all, 27 PokerStars players started the event.

At the end of the day 283 players remained, with 23 PokerStars players still in, including Rick Bryant in 4th position with T174,400 (the chip leader, Joe Cassidy, has T195,650). Play resumed today at noon with blinds of T400-800 with a T100 ante. PokerStars players represented 7.9% of the starting field; at the end of Day 1, PokerStars players represented 8.1% of the remaining field.

Play continues for five 90-minute rounds today, and then resumes at noon tomorrow.

Well-known players that were eliminated on Day 1 included Phil Ivey, Ron Rose, Sam Farha, Andy Bloch, Noli Francisco, Casey Kastle, Chip Jett, Men Nguyen, Mark Seif and Carlos Mortensen.
