World Poker Tour 2004 - Day 3
Day 3 of the $25,000 World Poker Tour Championship began at noon with 122 players remaining of the starting field of 343. The day began with 9 PokerStars players remaining, or about 7% of the field (we started Day 1 with 8%). Players on Day 3 played until midnight, playing seven 90 minute rounds, up from the previous 2 days' 5 rounds.
The field thinned slowly for the first 2 hours, after which 20 players were eliminated in rapid succession. In unfortunate luck of seat changes, 3 of the remaining PokerStars players were now at the same table (gotmilk, roadruner01 and Sir Doc), along with T.J. Cloutier. When 60 players remained the pace slowed once again (predictably, since 50 players would make the money). Player 51 was eliminated at around 6pm, and 3 PokerStars players remained: gotmilk, roadruner01 and Goose Bumps.
roadruner01 was the first of the PokerStars players to be eliminated in the money, cashing out a very respectable $41,583 in 33rd place. The final 2 PokerStars players remaining in contention are gotmilk, who will start Day 4 in 8th place with T722,000, and Goose Bumps, in 24th place with T294,000.
The chip leader at the start of Day 4 is Mike Matusow with T1,328,000. Known names still in the race include David Pham, Hon Le, Ted Forrest, T.J. Cloutier, former WSOP champ Dan Harrington and French actor/singer Patrick Bruel. The average chip count is T553,000.
Day 4 play begins at noon, and will continue until 6 player remain, setting up the WPT final table to be taped on Friday.
