World Poker Tour 2004 - Day 5
The final table of the World Poker Tour $25,000 Championship Event started at 8pm on Friday, April 23rd with over $2.7 million at stake for first place. All of the finishers were already guaranteed over $200,000 in prize money.
The action went very fast, with Steve Brecher losing a substantial part of his stack very early on, then going out with A4 vs. Martin Deknijff's AQ. Things slowed down for a bit, until about 20 minutes later, when Richard (gotmilk) Grijalva raised with JJ and was reraised by Russ Rosenblum. Richard reraised all-in, Russ called, and the board changed nothing - taking Russ out in 5th place.
Hasan Habib doubled through Richard a short time later with KK vs. Richard's KT when the money went in on a 9 high flop. This left Richard the low stack, but still in good shape with about $2.6 million.
Meanwhile, Martin did a lot of blind stealing, taking his total over the $8 million mark (almost 1/2 of the chips in play).
Richard raised to $350,000 with A7o under the gun, and Martin immediately called with Kc2c. Martin checked the flop of Ac 3c 3d, and Richard bet out $350,000. Martin declared that he was all-in, and Richard called. The 7d on the turn gave Richard a higher 2 pair, but the 10c on the river took the last PokerStars player out in fourth place.
Although this beat had to be heartbreaking for Richard, he consoled himself with fourth place prize money of $457,408 - a very respectable payday after having won his $25,000 seat in a cash satellite on PokerStars.
