Report by Brad "Otis" Willis

There were a whole bunch of people who woke up this morning and probably didn't realize they were going to have the worst poker day of their life. They had little reason to expect their World Series of Poker Day 2 experience would be anything much different than their Day 1 experience. After all, I'm sure they thought, who is this Dmitri Nobles guy I'm sitting with anyway?

Who is he? Well, at this very moment, he's the 2006 World Series of Poker chip leader with $549,200 in chips.

Early in this event, Nobles took a shine to Team Blog's C.J. Hoyt, perhaps rightly believing that C.J. is a good luck charm. As a bit of proof, Nobles caught really lucky all day long and then played big-stack poker. With all of that in mind, Hoyt has been on the Nobles story all day long.

Nobles was, no doubt, the story of the day here at the World Series of Poker. However, before the ESPN cameras found Nobles, they spent their day hovering over two of the five world champions remaining in the main event.

Two champions at the start of the day

Greg "Fossilman" Raymer simply couldn't gain any traction today. It was a story that begged for a happy ending, but wouldn't end the way anyone wanted it to. Just before the dinner break, Raymer made his way to the rail after getting all his money in with his signature hand, pocket eights.

Here's all of Team Blog's coverage of Fossilman on his final day of play:

PokerStars most recent champion, Joe Hachem, had a much better day. While he rode a rollercoaster of hands and emotions, he managed to make it to the end of Day 2 with a better-than-average stack. Fellow Aussie Ali Lightman sweated Hachem all day long.

While we were covering the huge stories of the day, Team Blog also kept an eye on the other stories that didn't happen in front of the TV cameras.

Thursday is actually a day off for all the remaining main event players. Day 3 of the WSOP main event will begin on Friday. Full chip counts for the whole of Day 2 will be released here as soon as they are released by the WSOP.

Congratulations to all of our players who made it to Day 3.
