EPT Warsaw: Poland braced for day 1a

As the sun sets on a riotous second day at the APPT in Manila, that same sun rises here in Poland ready for the start the EPT Warsaw.

I say rises. We’re assuming it has. The Warsaw skies are a standard European grey today, overcast with a heavy hint of cold in the air that will only make the tournament room even snugger. The contrast couldn’t be more different. When the casino opens its doors to the new EPT Warsaw champion on Wednesday it will provide enough heat to blow a hole through any clouds overhead. But until that day the tournament room is where our attentions will be.

If you’re a regular follower of the tour you’ll know the drill. Today is day 1a, when the first wave plays eight levels of Texas hold ’em, their aim being to make it through into day two on Monday with a hefty stack to call their own.

Among that wave will be a tide full of Team PokerStars Pros split over the first two days. Today we’ll see former EPT Grand Final Champion Gavin Griffin in action as well as a multitude of PokerStars sponsored players including Kara Scott, Polish TV presenter Maciej Dowbor, Julien Van Lang of France and Spaniard Raul Paez.

There will also be a repeat appearance by EPT Budapest winner William Fry. Two in a row anyone?

That’s all ahead of us. Play starts at 2pm Central European Time. As you’d expect the PokerStars blog will have updates from start to finish and the video blog team will be out and about talking to players throughout the day. You can keep score yourself with regular checks on our chip count page which remains the most accurate place to find out what’s really going on.
