PokerStars is fast. We've established that time and again. It's ridden alongside Aston Martin. It's backed Brazilian stock car racer Gualter Salles. It's even gotten involved in International Kart racing. Now, it's headed to the northern reaches of Europe to race on the water.
Finland prides itself on its thousands of lakes, dozens of motor sports champions, and big time poker stars. The country gets even more proud when it's able to mix those things together. That's exactly what it's doing as PokerStars and Finnish F1 boat driver Sami Salio join hands.
Salio, 34, got his first racing boat from his dad when he was 13 years old. No one has been able to get the guy off the water since. He started his F1 career in 1998 in Tampere, Finland. He won his first race the very next year. Two years ago, Salio won his first world championship. Now he's going to be racing with PokerStars on board. The PokerStars-sponsored boat is a 420 horsepower machine that will push Salio up to 140 miles per hour on the water.
Salio is racing next week in Finland and chasing another championship. Like any good poker player, he knows he can't win it all on Day 1.
"First I try to win my home race first time and then I try to win championship again, as well," he said.
