Sergio Castelluccio surges to IPT Malta chip lead

IPT_thn.jpgWe're used to seeing the PokerStars Italian Poker Tour stopping off at various destinations around the country, but now it has set sail and moored at the beautiful island of Malta.

One man who is enjoying the sea breeze is Day 1A chip leader Sergio Castelluccio, from Italy, with 159,100. He's followed by Balzan Demajo with 109,800 and Angelo Repoli with 109.600.

Castelluccio is no stranger to the top of the leaderboard, having already won IPT San Remo this year.

A field of 139 players from around the world made its way to the Hilton Casino of Malta for Day 1A, with 34 of those having qualified online with PokerStars for much less than the €2,200 buy-in. A total of 61 survived with an average stack of 42,769 to come back for Day 2 on Saturday.

Today's Day 1B will include Team PokerStars Pros Luca Pagano, Dario Minieri, Salvatore Bonavena and Pierpaolo Fabretti, as well as Team PokerStars Online Luca Moschitta and Giovanni Salvatore, winner of the TLB last year.

You can follow all the action as it happens over on our sister Italian blog, where Matteo Viola is running editorial operations. Using Google Translate tends to make things a little easier.

Yesterday also saw a winner for the IPT Ladies Event. Deborah Lacovino took home €2,000 and a ticket for the next IPT San Remo in December. Congratulations!
