Support your World Cup team on PokerStars

ps_news_thn.jpgMy friend looked around her office this morning and noted the silence.

"The office is empty today," she said.

Her friend looked back at her and said, "Must be some stupid sports-related holiday."

Suffice to say, the two friends aren't World Cup fans. It is our belief, however, that you, our fine readers, more than likely are as caught up in the World Cup insanity as most of the other people we know. Whether you call it football or soccer, you are probably one of the millions of people who right now are skipping work and blocking off hours of your day to watch the World Cup matches.

Now, PokerStars has found a way to let you support your team while you play at the PokerStars tables. Check it out.

Here's how it works:

When you log into PokerStars you will see a big banner in the lobby that will show the upcoming World Cup matches. There is a button both beneath that banner and in the "Options" men that will allow you to show your team's avatar in place of your usual player image. As long as your team remains in the World Cup, your avatar will appear as your nation's flag (and if your team is eliminated early, you can always choose another team for which to root).

It's all part of the latest software update PokerStars put out this morning that also includes:

  • The oft-requested feature that allows the user to control the speed of playback in the PokerStars hand replayer.

  • Improvements to the black table theme (which I also used in the screen shot above). If you don't like the changes, you can always stick with the old version.
  • In the meantime, head on over to PokerStars and wave your country's flag. And...Go U.S.A.! (The preceding opinion is that of the writer and the writer alone. Neither his boss, one Mr. Simon Young, nor most of his co-writers on the PokerStars Blog, agree with the U.S.A! sentiment and are planning to have a good laugh come this time tomorrow when England plays the U.S.)
