Team PokerStars Pro out in force in Barcelona
More than 30 members of Team PokerStars Pro are heading for Barcelona this month to compete in the fifth event of EPT Season 7, writes Mad Harper.
Among the stars taking part will be Daniel "KidPoker" Negreanu who has now put himself firmly on the EPT map after a great performance in Vienna last week. Daniel, who had never even cashed in an EPT Main Event before London in October, reached the Vienna final as chip leader and looked set not only to win the €700,000 first prize and his first EPT title, but also the coveted Triple Crown of poker.
Only Roland de Wolfe and Gavin Griffin have so far gained EPT, World Poker Tour and World Series titles - and hopes were riding high in the Austrian capital that Daniel, who has four WSOP bracelets and two WPT titles, would be joining their number. In the end however, he was thwarted by Czech Team PokerStars Pro Martin Hruby and finished fourth for a €175,000 payday.
Another member of Team PokerStars Pro who has the Triple Crown in his sights is Alex Gomes from Brazil. Gomes won the $2,000 No Limit Hold'em event at the World Series in 2008 and scooped a WPT title the following year, when he took down the 2009 Bellagio Cup for $1.1 million.
Gomes is coming to Barcelona with a whole bunch of Latin American pros including EPT London High Roller winner Nacho Barbero from Argentina, who has already won four major titles this year, and Mexican Team Pro and WSOP bracelet winner Angel Guillen, who won his seat to EPT Barcelona on PokerStars.
Satellites for the €5,300 Main Event and the €330 Estrellas Poker Tour Deepstack Turbo Freezeout are running now on PokerStars.
