Oleksii Kovalchuk wins IPT Nova Gorica for €150,000
The PokerStars Italian Poker Tour continues to attract impressive fields, and this Nova Gorica event was loaded with talent that generated a very healthy €556,780 prize pool. After it was all said and done, Oleksii Kovalchuk from the Ukraine took down the title and banked the €150,000 first prize.
Kovalchuk has had an impressive year, winning a WSOP bracelet this summer in the $2,500 NL Hold'em Six Max event for $690,000, but he had to work hard for this second title, facing Team PokerStars Online's Luca Moschitta heads-up.
The last two survivors from the 284 players who turned out in Slovenia were a fitting illustration of just how much the IPT has developed as a tour, one that is now increasingly being penned in to the diaries of players from around the world.
The final action saw Moschitta move all-in with K♠6♦ against Kovalchuk's Q♠J♣ on a board that turned the J♠ to seal the deal. Moschitta, who had $71,000 in live tournament winnings to his name before this event, can now add another €97,000 to that.
The next stop on the IPT circuit will be in Campione d'Italia, November 24-28. Details can be found on the PokerStars Italian Poker Tour site. If you can read Italian, then full coverage of Nova Gorica can be found on our sister Italian PokerStars Blog.
