Pointful92 Scores for Canada in July 24 Women's Sunday

Sunday Special corner logo.jpg207 players entered the July 24 Women's Sunday, building a prize pool of over $10,000. It was a particularly exciting Sunday for PokerStars Women. In addition to the five figure Women's Sunday Prize pool, the first €1,500 package was awarded for the EPT London Ladies Event, to be held at the Victoria Casino on October 2nd.

Two $50 bounties on Adrienne Rowsome (talonchik) of Team PokerStars Online and Team PokerStars Pro Fatima Moreira de Melo (FatimaDeMelo) added some extra sugar to the Women's Sunday. Rowsome and Moreira de Melo both chipped up well in the first few levels of play, so getting their bounties was not going to be easy. However, as the blinds increased and the field whittled down to fewer than 100 players, both Adrienne and Fatima began to get short stacked.

In Adrienne's fatal hand, she raised from the cutoff and called a 3-bet shove by Herz.Dame of Germany. It looked good for the Omaha 8 or better expert as she showed down A♣ Q♠ against J♦ 9♠ , especially when the flop came K♠ 5♥ Q♥. The turn was the K♦ but the river brought the T♥, giving Herz.Dame the straight and the $50 bonus. Just a few minutes later, Fatima's bounty was captured by Sunnlight from Russia whose A♥ J♠ held up against Fatima's T♠ 9♠.

The following prize pool details crystallized when the 1-hour late registration period ended:

Total players: 207
Prize pool: $10,350
Paid finishers: 36

Money Bubble Pops as San Remo Heroine Chips Up
After the bubble burst, guaranteeing each player at least $77.62, eliminations were fast and furious. Embroiled in the action was Canadian poker pro Xuan Liu (xx23xx) who placed 3rd in 2011 EPT San Remo for €360,000 (If you want to follow in Xuan's footsteps, note that this year's San Remo EPT has moved up six months to October 2011 and you can qualify soon on PokerStars).

Xuan's stack saw a fair share of ups and downs as she nearly made the final table but she was eliminated with A♠ Q♦ vs. vayacondiaz's 4♠ A♣. Xuan took home $139.72 for her 13th-place finish.

The day was hardly a bust for Xuan. She won the aforementioned EPT London satellite, securing a €1,500 prize package. After her victory, Xuan tweeted: "Shipped EPT London LADIES package wutup." Find details here on how you can join Xuan and some of the women of Team Poker Stars Pro in London.

Battle of the Blinds Bursts Final Bubble

The final table bubble burst when the same player who vanquished Xuan Liu, vayacondiaz went all in on the small blind with A♣ 6♥ and was called by Ossiatti's J♠ A♠. The board came T♣ 4♣ 5♦ 5♠ 2♠ and the jack played, knocking vayacondiaz out. This is what the final table looked like:

PokerStars Women's Sunday final table

Stakes were high at the final table, with almost $2,000 separating first place from ninth. Final table blinds started at 2,000/4,000 with a 400 ante, leaving several of the remaining players short and ready to gamble.

Kogle380 got her short stack all in with A♦ 9♠ but fell to Geriieee's K♥ K♠, eliminating Kogle380 in 9th for $196.65.

The super short-stacked Xenapoker was the next to go, losing in a battle of the blinds with K♠ 4♦ to MirKriSAN's J♥ 5♠. "Jackson Five" prevailed when the board came 9♦ 3♠ A♠ 5♦ T♥.

Another interesting short stack shove occurred when Anniecat4 pushed from under the gun with just 6384 chips. There were 12,800 chips in the pot when it was folded to the big blind and Ossiatti would have to put only just over 2000 more to see a showdown, but she made the fold. Anniecat4 then showed pocket kings- and she was back in the game! Anniecat4's comeback continued a few hands later when she doubled through cynt86 with K♦ Q♥ over K♣ J♥.

Guy777777 from Israel was the next to be eliminated for $258.75 when she ran Q♦ J♦ into Ossiatti's A♦ J♣.

Ace on the river saves Anniecat4

As the final table play progressed, cynt86 showed a penchant for flushes starting with a big hand against Ossiatti where she flopped the nut flush with K♠ T♠ on a J♠ 7♠ A♠ board, and won a 100,000-chip pot. Pointful92 also chipped up, doubling through Geriieee with J♠ T♣ over A♣ K♠.

The most dramatic hand of the final table thus far came when Anniecat4 raised all in with just over 58K in chips and blinds of 3,000/6,000 with a 300 ante. Cynt86 called in the small blind but pointful92 quickly re-shoved in the big blind for 52K more. Cynt86 made the call and showed down Q♣ Q♠ vs. Anniecat4's A♥ K♠ and pointful92's K♥ K♦. Pointful92 was poised to grab a massive chip lead with a board 5♠ 3♠ 4♦ 7♣ until the A♣ hit the river, tripling Anniecat4 up. She now had 178,632 chips, a long way up from the 6K she had shoved with just a few orbits prior.

Cynt86 rebounded quickly, doubling through Ossiatti with A♣ 7♦ over T♠ K♥ and then eliminating Geriieee with nines over sevens. Geriieee snagged $465.75 for her sixth place finish.

MRKriSan, who had stayed pretty quiet up to that point, grabbed a commanding chip lead with two key hands. She first won a massive pot against Anniecat4 with two pair and then took the last of Ossiatti's chips with 5♥ K♥ over 8♠ 6♥. Ossiatti collected $600.30 for her fifth place finish.

Dramatic wheel for pointful92

When the blinds went up to 3,500/7,000 with a 700 ante, Pointful92 shoved her remaining 80,944 chips and was called by chip leader, MirKriSAN. The future looked bleak for pointful92, who showed A♥ 3♥ against MirKriSAN 's A♦ Q♥. The flop brought little solace as Q♦ K♠ 4♣ gave MirKriSAN a pair but the miracle runner-runner came with the 5♦ turn and the 2♥ river, giving pointful92 the straight.

AnnieCat4, at this point reduced to a short stack of just over 30K in chips, shoved from the small blind and was quickly called by MirKriSAN who had a pretty good hand, A♦ A♣. The run-out gave no help to Anniecat4's A♥ T♦ but she picked up $879.75 for her fourth-place finish.

The three remaining players were now guaranteed four-figure scores. Cynt86 began three-handed play with just over half of the chips in play. The first all-in confrontation saw cynt86 raise from the button and call a three-bet shove from pointful92 in the small blind. The good news for cynt86 was that she had A♦ Q♥ against pointful92's Q♣ T♣ but the bad news came on the flop: T♠ K♠ T♦ followed by 6♥ and 6♦.

Soon thereafter, cynt86 doubled through MirKriSan with K♥ 9♥ against A♣ 8♥. Pointful92 finished MirKriSAN off with, taking down her pocket sevens with a flopped pair of queens. MirKriSAN of Slovenia won $1,169.55 for her third place performance.

Heads-up in the PokerStars Women's Sunday

Pointful92 entered heads-up play with a commanding chip lead of over 500K in chips to under 100K for cynt86. Although cynt86 started the match with a double up, it only took a couple hands to decide matters. Cynt86 shoved her stack into pointful92 who called with J♠ J♥. Cynt86 showed K♣ Q♥ but got no help from the flop 4♦ 8♣ T♣ turn 9♠ or river 8♦. Cynt86, who hails from the Netherlands could console herself with a juicy 2nd prize of $1,552.50.

After over four hours of play, Pointful92 of Canada captured the Women's Sunday title and $2,116.68. Canadians such as Team PokerStars Online's Adrienne Rowsome and professional player Xuan Liu added star power to the event, and it was fitting to see another Canadian player taking home top honors. Congratulations!
