Team PokerStars Pro Liv Boeree Wins Women's Sunday

Sunday Special corner logo.jpgOnline poker is the vehicle most often used for women to get into poker. It offers anonymity but camaraderie if desired, and lower stakes than are offered in many live venues but higher ones when players are ready. The reasons for online poker's popularity are many. But often, players get the urge to test out their skills in a live setting.

Enter PokerStars Women Live. The live tournament is part of the EPT London festivities, and the PS Women Live event will be held on October 2 at the Victoria Casino. Players are welcome to buy in on site, but they can also win their seats online.

There are weekly £1,500 prize packages awarded to players - one guaranteed each Sunday from a £108.50 satellite - that includes the tournament buy-in, hotel and expenses. But there are daily freerolls allowing players to qualify for the Sunday satellite at no cost! Other satellites offer entries to that Sunday tournament for as little as £5.50.

PS Women Live will include amateurs and pros, and it is the perfect chance to translate those online skills to a live tournament.

Speaking of online, let's get to today's Women's Sunday!

Total players: 227
Prize pool: $11,350.00
Paid finishers: 36

Among the players in the field were two Team PokerStars Pros, both carrying $50 bounties. Celina Lin was the first to exit after about an hour of play, and Liv Boeree was still going strong.

Into the second hour, Boeree was firmly in the top ten on the leaderboard, and by the start of the third hour, she was in first place with only five tables remaining.

As the fourth hour neared, two tables were still in action. And about 20 minutes later, big hands were taking place at both tables. At Table 8, ScarltJohnsn doubled through LakyFish. At Table 7, Darc Cat moved all-in with Q♦J♥ against the A♣8♣ of wwTANKww, and the board brought 5♥5♣8♥3♣T♣. The flush eliminated Darc Cat in tenth place with $181.60.

All of the women at the final table were also guaranteed WCOOP Step 2 satellite tickets per the August Women's WCOOP promotion.

It only took a few hands for the women to get comfortable with each other, and action quickly heated up.

When Liv Boeree made a preflop raise, Furiiiya responded with an all-in reraise from the small blind. Boeree called with J♠J♥, and Furiiiya showed 7♥7♦. Nothing came on the 5♦3♦T♣6♣K♠ to change the outcome, and Furiiiya departed in ninth place with $215.65.

LakyFish moved all-in on the very next hand with only 26,393 chips. Miss_Antoni reraised all-in to isolate, which worked, and showed A♣8♣. LakyFish was at risk with K♣T♣, and the board of A♥3♣J♦K♦5♦ gave player a pair, but the aces ruled. LakyFish swam away in eighth place with $283.75.

Three hands later, Liv Boeree and paulit84 went into battle from the blinds. The flop came 3♥A♣K♦, and Boeree bet. Paulit84 raised all-in for 106,299 chips, and Boeree called with A♦Q♥ for the flopped top two pair. Paulit84 showed A♠3♦ for the lesser two pair. The 7♥ turn changed nothing, though the K♠ on the river gave them both aces and kings. But Boeree's kicker played, and paulit84 was out in seventh place with $397.25.

ScarltJohnsn then doubled through Liv Boeree to take the lead in the tournament, though the latter held on in second place.

Short-stacked wwTANKww looked for some double-up luck and pushed all-in with A♠5♦, and Liv Boeree called from the big blind with J♣7♠. The flop of 9♥5♠4♦ improved wwTANKww's chances, but the J♦ hit on the river to give Boeree top pair. The Q♣ on the river ended the tournament for wwTANKww, who left in sixth place with $510.75.

No repeat title for Rapuncel<3

Miss_Antoni doubled through Rapuncel<3 with pocket aces to stay alive, and Rapuncel<3 was very short on chips. On the next hand, those chips went all-in with K♠3♠, and ScarltJohnsn called with A♣Q♠. The board ran out 2♣J♥6♠8♦7♥, and Rapuncel<3 was unable to repeat her performance of July 3. She was eliminated in fifth place with $658.30.

Miss_Antoni doubled again, this time through Liv Boeree, leaving the latter as the shortest of the four players. But Boeree proceeded to double through u_taranova as follows:

On the very next hand, u_taranova moved all-in with K♠7♠, and Liv Boeree was along for the ride with K♣Q♣. The board came 9♣4♠5♠A♣K♥, and u_taranova was out in fourth place with $964.75.

Three hands after that, Miss_Antoni made her move with 7♦7♥, and Liv Boeree was there with 9♦9♠. The board came 2♥J♥J♣7♣J♠, giving both players the full house but Boeree the better one. Miss_Antoni finished the tournament in third place with $1,282.55.

Heads-up between Team Pro and celebrity?

We assume that ScarltJohnsn is not the celebrity, but it's fun to imagine that she lives in Russia and is playing on PokerStars. Nevertheless, she was ready to take on Team PokerStars Pro Liv Boeree in the final battle:

Seat 7: ScarltJohnsn (309,073 in chips)
Seat 9: Liv Boeree (371,927 in chips)

ScarltJohnsn did come on strong and take over the chip lead within a few rounds of play, but Boeree took it back.

Soon after, the two went into a hand to see a 2♠2♥J♠ flop. ScarltJohnsn bet, and Boeree check-raised. When ScarltJohnsn reraised, Boeree moved all-in. ScarltJohnsn called all-in with A♦K♥, but Liv Boeree showed A♥2♣ for the set of deuces. The 4♥ and 3♦ finished the hand, and ScarltJohnsn of Russia took $1,702.50 for second place.

Team PokerStars Pro Liv Boeree of the UK won the Women's Sunday tournament and the $2,321.18 in prize money, not to mention her own $50 bounty. Congratulations!
