A bracelet (in my underwear) for Basebaldy?
What's up, everyone! First of all. sorry. This blog post is long overdue, and it's because I was simply too busy. What dream was I chasing? Not the one where I play the WSOP Main Event in my underwear. I'm going to live that one out in July. No, I was out chasing an EPT Championship.
SPOILER ALERT: I did not win an EPT Championship.
Once again, I fell short, but I am not ready to quit just yet. And besides, even though I did not win any of the tournaments, I really boosted the heck out of my frequent flyer miles.
Check this out: I played EPT Madrid, EPT Campione (which was one of the most serene places to play poker), UKIPT Nottingham, EPT Berlin, and finally the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo.
Unfortunately, my result for this trip put me in the loss column, especially when you add up the price of all those Toblerones I ate from the various mini-bars. I did make a few final tables in some of the preliminary events, but there was nothing to write home about.
Well, one time in Monte Carlo I went out to dinner and it was so expensive that I had to write home asking for more money, but that's beside the point. I had absolutely no success in the main events.
But then came the SCOOP on PokerStars! I look forward to the SCOOP every year. It's got a beautiful structure, and tons of events. However, this year I only had one deep finish, which was in the $700 heads-up event.
I won the first six matches, but unfortunately succumbed to one of the games greats in my seventh match: ZeeJustin Bonomo. Not only is Justin one of the best players in the game, but he's on fire right now (he just won the Super High Roller in Monte Carlo for over 1.5 million Euros).
I had a few more cashes in the SCOOP, but once again, it was a losing series for me. But you know what I say when I have a bad run? I'm saving my best for my next series...which just happens to be the WORLD Series (of Poker). I have a scientific formula, and by my calculations...I've already taken all of my bad beats for the entire year, so I'm mathematically guaranteed to run good at this year's Series.
Which is where I am right now. In Las Vegas. Chasing another one of my dreams. That elusive World Series of Poker bracelet. I've made a final table at the WSOP in the last three out of four years. That's almost 75%! My best finish is a fifth place so far. I'm working hard to improve on that. Unfortunately, getting to that spot is pretty damned tough.
And more importantly than for myself, and for my family, I want to win a bracelet this year for Eric Baldwin. Eric's a good kid, and a genius. Yes, he's a good poker player, but he's more a genius because he picked me for his fantasy team. Yes, I want that bracelet, but also - let's prove Basebaldy right!
Good luck, me!
