PokerStars weekend primer: SCOOP, Kid Poker, 80 billionth hand

ps_news_thn.jpgLet me offer you an inside look a how things were supposed to work this weekend. In the Grand Planning Room of the PokerStars Headquarters (it's very nicely decorated with several antique maps and a rusty compass), this weekend was set to be fully dedicated to the kickoff of the Spring Championship of Online Poker. There would be pomp. There would be fanfare. Most importantly, there would be focus--sick, intense focus--on the matter at hand. Like an only child at a family reunion, SCOOP was going to have its figurative cheeks pinched a thousand times before its Sunday launch.

That's changed.

SCOOP is no longer the weekend's only child. In fact, there are three gigantic things happening over the next few days that need your attention. SCOOP now shares the weekend with a big-deal high stakes game featuring Daniel Negreanu. They will both share the stage with PokerStars' 80 billionth hand. In the world of PokerStars, there aren't a great many bigger weekends.

With that in mind, here is your weekend primer and all you need to know to enjoy the weekend to its fullest.

SCOOP 2012

Sunday at 11am ET, the Spring Championship of Online Poker kicks off a 40-event, 120-tournament, $30 million guaranteed festival. It's going to be rocking and rolling from the time it starts until the gigantic main event two weeks later. Here's your handy-dandy pocket guide to the festival:

  • SCOOP web page
  • SCOOP schedule
  • SCOOP Player of the Series information
  • SCOOP history and statistics
  • Join Lee Jones on the rail for SCOOP

  • Limit Hold'em Challenge

Before SCOOP kicks off on Sunday, Daniel Negreanu will take center stage on Saturday in the first PokerStars Limit Hold'em Challenge. Saturday at 2pm ET, Negreanu will take on rUaBot in a limit heads-up contest similar to Viktor Blom's SuperStar Showdown. In this case, however, the game will be fixed limit hold'em. Negreanu and rUaBot will start with $75,000 bankrolls and play 1,250 hands across two tables of $200/$400 heads-up limit hold'em.

We here at the PokerStars Blog have loosened up our note-taking fingers and will have a full report after the match has ended. For more information, visit the PokerStars Limit Hold'em Challenge information page.

    PokerStars 80 billionth hand

Let me be clear and honest: I have a decent idea of when the 80 billionth hand is going to be dealt on PokerStars, but I'm not going to write it here. Why? Well, a couple of reasons. First, that would take all the fun out of it. Half the good times in these parties come from the (say it with me) antici...........pation. Secondly, I've been known to be wrong before. Like really wrong. I sometimes accidentally fold the nuts on the river. So, I wouldn't want to steer you the wrong way.

Let's just put it like this: I expect PokerStars 80 billionth hand will come sometime before everybody goes to work on Monday. Fair enough?

If you're at a loss for why this is important, let me direct you to this story about the PokerStars Road to 100 Billion. In short, every million hands up until the 80 billionth, whoever is dealt into a milestone hand will win big money. To put a finer point on it, whoever wins the 80 billionth hand will pick up a minimum of $20,000.

So, that's the weekend in a nut shell. If you can't find something fun in there to do, let me suggest you might need some sort of counseling.

    Happy weekend, everyone!
