The late-night grind
The biggest change in my life this year is unquestionably the birth of my daughter. She is eight months old now and after traveling to so many tournaments this fall, I'm happy to settle down and spend some time at home with her and my wife. I've been playing online mostly in the late evenings, after I've put her to bed. I'm really looking forward to the holiday season this year since it will be my daughter's first Christmas.
I couldn't pass up a trip to the EPT San Remo, since it's my favorite stop on the entire tour. I traveled there with a great group of friends and had a fantastic time, despite busting out on Day 1. A few weeks later, my fellow Team Pro Dag Palovic invited me to come out to the Bratislava Poker Masters. A team event was on the tournament schedule and he asked me to join up with him. Naturally, our team was "Team PokerStars" and was made up of Dag, myself, and Richard Toth. We finished Day 1 in fifth position out of 13 teams remaining, but unfortunately things didn't go our way on Day 2. Our team finished in eighth place, but only the top three spots paid.
I also had the opportunity to play in the PokerStars Kosice Open. Kosice is the second-largest city in Slovakia and is home the beautiful Monte Carlo poker club. I only wish I had a more beautiful result. I played the main event and the high roller and finished just short of the money in both events. I fared much better at the Czech Poker Festival, held at the Card Casino Prague. I finished fifth in the pot-limit Omaha event and even managed to get in some multi-tabling. While playing in a six-max no-limit hold'em side event, I was simultaneously playing an online satellite into the main event. The Card Club Prague allows people to play online while at a live table and I successfully took advantage of that rule. Although I didn't cash in the six-max, I won the satellite and played the main event the next day.
Now that I am back home, it is nearly Christmas, and my only thoughts of poker are during those late nights online while my daughter sleeps peacefully in the next room.
