My summer has gone to the dogs
Hello from my home in Germany located out in the country where I'm spending the summer. I live not too far from Berlin, but it's well away from the loud, busy city and so it's a nice place to get away.
With the last European Poker Tour season having ended and the next one not beginning for a while, I'm enjoying the time away and taking advantage of the opportunity to relax at home. I've played in the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas in the past, but I took this summer off to rest and recharge.
I keep myself busy, though, with lots of different activities. I live not very far from the sea. It's only a few minutes away, in fact, and I go there two or three times a week. I also keep a very large garden which requires a lot of attention. Friends come out to visit frequently, usually looking to escape the hustle and bustle of Berlin, and I do a lot of cooking for them, too.
As I wrote about last time, I ride horses and so am liking having time to ride my stallion, Amadeus, this summer. I also have a one-year-old dog with lots of energy named Churchill. I'll go for bicycle rides and he'll accompany me, and he'll even outrun me sometimes.
I should say I haven't completely disconnected from poker, though, as recently I've been doing some coaching.
Here in Germany we have a version of the show "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" There have been five winners so far who have won the million euros, and one of them -- Sebastian Langrock, who won in the spring -- is in fact an amateur poker player who plays a lot online.
After winning on the show, Sebastian decided he wanted to try to start playing some live events on the EPT as well as in the WSOP Main Event this year. For the last two months I've been coaching hi. I'm very hopeful he does well, and look forward to following his progress.
As a poker pro I think it's good sometimes to take breaks and recharge, and I'm definitely enjoying the chance to do so this summer. After all, we can't all be like Churchill who has a never-ending supply of energy!
