PokerStars weekend review: tupac_srj wins $216,359 in landmark 800 millionth tournament

PokerStars has just dealt it's 800,000,000th tournament and, there'll be little surprise here, it happened on a Sunday. The Carnival - 800 Million Celebration, $1m Gtd tournament understandably garnered a lot of interest and picked up a massive 21,635 field to create a $2,163,500 prize pool. Somewhat incredibly, there was no deal made at the final table despite some huge pay jumps: there was more than $108,000 difference between 1st and 3rd payouts. That paid dividends for tupac_srj who won $216,359 after 14.5 hours of play (an hourly rate of $15,454, in case you were wondering). That result almost triples the Belgian player's total tournament MTT winnings. Oscar "MendaLerenda" Serradel, who has previously won the Super Tuesday, took 4th for $86,450.

The tournament was the culmination of the Carnival of Tournaments promotion, which included larger guarantees for the Daily Bigs and Golden Sit & Go's. An additional $100,000 in prizes was parachuted onto tables during the 800 Millionth PokerStars tournament in the shape of tournament tickets, including $700 PCA satellite tickets, and gifts, such as PokerStars chip sets, Porsche Design Sunglasses and Citizen watches.

That tournament was just one of many and you can check out the final table results of many of the PokerStars weekly tournament, including the Sunday Storm and Sunday 500 by clicking here.

Sunday majors
There was a three-way chop in the Sunday Warm-Up that saw Kiwi likely2cash win $89,299, while EPT champ Kevin McPhee just missed out on the final table. It was a Northern hemisphere triumph in the Sunday Million though. semaj2 from Ireland won the weekly monster tournament for $168,227 after a four-way chop, just pipping Stefan "mindgamer" Jedlicka to the title.

Ike Haxton on turning $30 into millions
Team PokerStars Online's Ike Haxton recounted the inspiring tale of Doug "WCGRider" Polk's transformation from a frustrated low stakes grinder to one of the toughest players around (with the winnings to go with it). Haxton's own story was also pretty eye opening.

Team PokerStars dominant (deuce to seven)
Okay, it's not exactly the biggest prizes in the game, or the biggest field, but there was an all Red Spade podium in the $215 Weekly NLSD 2-7 tournament.

$215 Weekly NLSD 2-7
1. Naoya "nkeyno" Kihara, Team PokerStars Online, Japan, $1,624.51
2. Shane "shaniac" Schleger, Team PokerStars Online, Mexico, $1,255.49
3. Charlotte "Sjlot" Van Brabander, Friend of PokerStars, Belgium, $720

No need to feel bad for shaniac, he won two other small tournaments to score a winning Sunday.

Satellites to all the big money tournaments, as well as live tournaments, run all week long and can be found in the PokerStars lobby by clicking 'Tourney' > 'Satellite'.
